Wind rushes through his hair, ruffling the floppy white pieces in all directions. There's a lingering sweet smell in the air, remnants of cherry blossoms that fill Satoru's sinuses.
The ghost of a familiar laugh echoes in his eardrums as his tired six eyes scan yet another street full of strangers.
Where is Suguru?
Bells chime as a shop door opens up the street.
What happened to Suguru?
A child shouts at his mother a few steps away.
Where is he?
The clouds block the sun out as they move with the breeze.
Why did he go?
A vendor calls out deals for his cart at passersby.
Why did he leave me?
Questions without any answers rattle around Satoru's skull. He's all too aware of the silence Suguru's left in his wake.
One night they were sharing a futon. And the next? Suguru was gone.
Empty room.
Empty closet.
No skeletons.
No note.
Gone.
Satoru doesn't know what happened.
He can't recall if there was ever something specific that drove his one and only away.
Although he has an untapped feeling that there is something that Suguru never told him.
But he just knows it's something that shouldn't matter anymore, even though it does.
Turning to head down an alleyway instead of side-stepping through a crowd, Satoru leaves. Another lead to where Suguru may be becoming a dead end.
Suguru will always matter.
A loose cherry blossom breaks free from a tree branch nearby and floats on the wind currents to catch in Satoru's hair. The sun breaks back through the clouds, lighting the alleyway in a warm glow.
Satoru just needs to stop letting Suguru's absence impact him.
