March 2015

Ever since Cassiopeia was a baby, Bella and Hermione agreed on one thing. They would each get their own Mother's Day because they both needed to be celebrated. Bella would get the British Mother's Day and Hermione would take the American holiday. Luckily, they had gotten to know the teachers at their daughters' school really well over the years thanks to Teddy having gone there before them. The teachers were the nicest ladies and just incorporated American Mother's Day into the curriculum in May. It actually worked out really well considering there were quite a few magical families who conceived with conception potions. So there were other children with more than one mommy. The teachers would let Hermione or Bella know when to come pick up the girls if they had been working on Mother's Day gifts to keep the surprise from the right mother. Hermione went to pick up the girls from school that particular Friday. All of the grades were together out on the big playground in the back of the school at pick up time so Hermione took a moment to go in and talk to Cass's teacher to make sure her daughter was behaving.

"Hello Rosie," Hermione made presence known as to not scare the teacher.

"Oh hello Minister Black. Did we have an appointment that I forgot about?"

"No nothing like that and I've told you, it's Hermione. I was just checking in to see how Cass has been doing in school. I know she and James can cause quite the commotion during play time so I just wanted to make sure she was doing well in her studies and not causing too much of a ruckus."

"Cassiopeia is a very spirited little girl but she is doing just fine in class. Top marks on all of her subjects. I can assure you that she's getting all of her work done. I did move her and Mr. Potter next to each other. They actually behave better when they are together than when I try to seperate them."

"That is good to hear. I'm glad she hasn't been causing too much trouble. I know she and James can be quite a handful at times." She noticed a small furrow of the teacher's brow. "What's that look for? She's done something hasn't she? Just tell me."

"Nothing bad. Nothing bad at all, just a little peculiar," the teacher led Hermione over towards the children's presents that were resting in the sun. It looked like the kids had planted some dirigible plums for their mother's and wrote them poems. "Cassiopeia did not want to participate in the Mother's Day gift this year. She said her mother would think the plums were stupid and she didn't want to give her something stupid. She did write a poem about everything she loves about her mother. And she drew this," the teacher handed Hermione a picture. "She said this is what Bella would really want," she chuckled.

"Thank you Rosie. And please, do not hesitate to call me if there are ever problems with Cass."

Hermione took Cass's drawing out to the playground. She watched for a few minutes as James, Cass, Minnie and Pandora were chasing each other around the swings. Hermione caught Cass's eye and beckoned her over, crooking her finger. The curly hair girl came running over and wrapped her arms around Hermione's legs. "Hi mum!"

"Hello my sweet girl," she squatted down and pulled out the picture, "did you make this for mummy?" Cass's eyes lit up at the picture she drew of a dagger surrounded by wildflowers. The girl only nodded, waiting to see if she was going to get in trouble about the fruit. Hermione knew her daughter well enough to know what she was doing, "mummy does have enough plum plants doesn't she?"

Cass rolled her eyes, "ugh Auntie Luna brings one over every month, I swear it!" She looked back at her picture, "I just thought this was pretty and that mummy would like it best. I wish I could make her a real one and not just a picture."

"Your mummy is going to love the thought and love you put into this. It truly shows how much you love her."

"Here you better hold it so I don't get it all crinkly," she giggled. "When will I be old enough to have one of these?"
