By the time we finished the tour, it was already lunch time, and I was wondering what murky goo they would serve when suddenly, I saw kids with... well, animal ears and other miscellaneous features, even glowing hands and more confusing things like people with scales (a reptilian hybrid? Dragon? I had no idea) climbing their skin.
"What's going on? Do those people have, like- magic powers or something? How is that possible?" I asked, darting glances at the kids.
Jay looked at me as if I'd come from Mars. "Well, of course they do. Everyone chosen to attend this school has 'em. And the best cores. Of course, it’s the school's standard." He seemed nonchalant, but I really couldn't comprehend how.
"But I don't- Never mind...So uh... What's your power?" I asked, trying to break the ice.
He hesitated before stating,
"Teleportation."
" Oh! Well, that's, err, that’s cool! You can like, get to your classes like, really fast!"
"Heh, yeah, I guess." He chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck as he sat on my right. His eyes flitted from one side of the cafeteria to the other, and a bead of sweat spontaneously dripped.
What was that about? There’s nothing wrong with teleportation... is there?
"Excuse me, can I sit with you two?" Someone asked. I looked up and Oh my god!! Fanfiction blue eyes! Ran through my mind. They were a petit girl with eyes as blue as sapphires. She had massive curls of black hair, a fringe of blue and a small but charming smile. Actually... come to think about it, a lot of people here that I’d seen have blue eyes... huh.
"Sure!" Jay exclaimed. This day had been great so far. That's... surprising.
The girl slid next to me.
"So, I'm guessing you're new here. I mean, I haven't seen you much and I only saw you last week." Jay said.
"Yeah."
"Well, so am I! I came this morning! What's your name?" I asked ecstatically.
"Adrianna. Adrianna Lycan." She replied.

This was so cool, I was meeting new and actually nice people. I had even already met a possible friend! What could go wrong?
...
But of course, I had to jinx my luck.
