Chapter 12

I woke up frightened and checked on Jenni beside me, she was already awake and looking at me. When she saw me focusing on her she put her hand on my chest and pushed me back down.

-Easy, I'm here. Do you want to talk about it or I can tell you a story about the shenanigans we get up to in camps.

My silence answered for me and she began her story about how she spent times pranking Lola and Leila by scaring them, apparently the easiest to scare is Leila. She has been scared of every camp and the number of it has only increased with time. She also told me about tiktoks and stories Lola and her made. I really liked the one where she was so focused on the phone she missed a step and almost fell down. She told me that Virginia and Alexia joined them from time to time but since Alexia was shy they didn't record it. I relaxed enough and made my breathing eased up, Jenni thought I was asleep and stopped talking she kissed my head and fell asleep.

I couldn't help but remember my dream, well my nightmare. It seemed so real. Jenni had stopped the adoption process and a faceless face had kept torturing me saying that she was a better daughter than I could ever be, that Jenni didn't want me anymore. I tried to run away from it all but the voice kept following and then it was all dark and there was Jenni but when she saw me she turned to the faceless person, smiled at them and hugged them she was leaving with them when I woke up trying to reach for her. Just thinking about it made me want to shudder. I scooted closer to Jenni who in her sleep brought me even closer and hugged me. Breathing her in, I fell asleep again.

-Oh! Carmen, come look at this. It's too cute!

Then I heard a camera and then there was flash.

-Lola! I told you not to wake them up.

-Yeah! Leave me with my daughter... and send me this picture!

-Is she still sleeping with all the noise?

-No, I grumbled but it sounded more like a "Nourgh". I think well I am just being rudely woken up and I'm a teenager. So pretty normal reaction.

-Hola Nemo! Lola and Carmen said at the same time.I am gonna prepare breakfast and you are coming with me.

I looked up to see Carmen dragging Lola behind her, who sent me a wave before looking ahead of herself. Then Mama put her cold toes against my calf and I was out of bed faster than you could say Lightning McQueen. She laughed and I went to grab warmer clothes and migrated to the couch and put the tv on to watch the Ultimate Spiderman. Lola and Carmen came back with viennoiseries (pastries, croissants and pains aux chocolats) . I love croissants, it's so good but it's not what's best for health and particularly for athletes so it's for cheats day only.

Mama hadn't moved out of her bedroom which was weird. When I began untangling myself from the couch blanket she walked out fully dressed and freshly showered, on the phone talking. She said goodbye and came up to us.

-When you are done go take a shower, Nemo please. Lola Carmen, when is your train back?

-In the afternoon, do you have somewhere to go ?

-Yes, she looked at me then back at them. I understood that I wasn't meant to hear that part. When she looks like that it means or it's about adult stuff or it's about the club negotiation and she talks about it with me but we have both decided to talk about the problem only when it's not stressing her out anymore. And to not stress me out also. So I got up and left to take a shower. When I walked back into the living room, they were all ready to leave.

-Where are you going ? I asked with a small voice.

-You are coming with us mija.
