Quite some time later, Marshall's memory of his past life: his parents, friends, his old life; started fading.
His main focus was to train hard. He was now starting to fit in. He would wake up in the mornings and bring in water from the spring nearby for the men. Also, his duties included: to hunt game for their supper later at night, to repair anything needed and to, train hard as their next leader.
Marshall wondered why they weren't any girls in the pack. So he decided to ask the head of the pack.
"Why aren't there any woman or girls around here?"
The head looked over to him. "Mar gheall ar,go bhfuilbeanachbodhraighthart anseo.Tá cónaí orthusuasna sléibhteagus muidiad a fheiceáilachuair amháin sa bhliainamaité."
Marshall shook his head. He still didn't understand Irish very well (A/N: Marshall and the pack come from Ireland. The roots of the bear and the rest of the creatures were first created there. This is all fictional as in this is all made up)
Marshall went to his friend Josh (Since Marshall had trouble remembering, he nicknamed Ceann Flor , "Joshua") for help translating.
"The head is saying, 'Because woman are a bother around here. They live up the mountains and we only see them once a year when we mate'".
Marshall started at Josh in awe. "What do you mean mate. You mean it as 'sex'?"
Josh started at him confused. "What's sex?"
Marshall's eyes grew. "You know," He made a hole with his fingers and stuck a finger inside.
Josh nodded. "Yeah, that."
"Have you ever mated before?" asked Marshall.
Josh shook his head. "But this year, i'll be assigned a mating partner so I guess ill be starting this year.." his voice slightly trailed off.
Marshall sat down on the grass. He was suppose to be hunting right now. But he looked up at his friend. "You don't sound happy."
He sat down next to Marshall. "Its just that.. We never get to pick our own partners. We cubs (Josh was a wolf), are traded by our fathers and mothers. So I already know whom i'm gowiing to be with...."
"So.. Who are you with?"
"Joyce. Cloch Meargánta,"
Marshall raised a brown. "How is she?"
It seemed that Josh was going to burst. "Oh Marshall, she's hideous! She's one of those that thinks she's better than the rest. I can't stand her! When I lived with my mother, she would stone me! I can't stand her!"
Marshall shook his head again and stood up. He brushed the grass off his shorts. "Who would you switch if you could?"
"Sage!"
"Woah, that was quick. What's so special about her?"
Josh grabbed Marshall by his shirt. "She's the total opposite of the pig! (Marshall smirked at this) She's absolutely beautiful and very nice too! Her long wavy hair always full of lavender. "
Josh let go of Marshall. "But she can't be mine. Ill be stuck with a lioness instead of a beautiful white wolf...."
Marshall could see how sad his friend was. "You know man, one of the perks of being a leader in training, is that I CAN switch you partners. I'll assure you, you'll have your beautiful wolf girl when we head to the mountains!"
Josh's face was full of glee. "Are you sure you can do that?"
Marshall smiled. "Of course!"
But Marshall knew he couldn't, but that wouldn't stop him from trying. Anything for a friend, he thought.
