It was during his first year of Boarding school where Joe Jonas found himself at this underaged party he was forced to attend. He just wanted to read his book but no, Mr. popular Harry Styles had other plans for him it would seem. He couldn't complain though, if it wasn't for nauseatingly extroverted people such as Harry, Joe would have little luck when it came to getting practice with basic human interaction. So he didn't completely despise Harry, just the party, and the noise, and the tasteless music. Joe rolled his eyes in disgust at that last point. He assured Harry that he would attend the party, he gave no such obligation to partake in the party. He would however be enjoying this party, and by enjoying the party he very much meant enjoying this book he brought with him as his means of escape. He clutched the book titled « music theory » close to his chest as he dodged through crowds of teenagers in search of the perfect solitary corner. When he found the closest thing to solitary he plopped down and let out a sigh. He would never understand the appeal of such juvenile activities. This was a boarding school, he was sent here to study, not goof off. Speaking of goof, take a look at Harry sitting in a circle of people on the floor across from him. They were all taking turns spinning a bottle around. Are they seriously that bored that spinning a bottle on the floor is entertaining enough to gather a crowd? Joe scoffed pompously at them. Suddenly, they were all looking at him. Oh no, did they notice the pomposity in his scoff? Has he already managed to make enemies this early in the school year? Everyone looked at Harry, who was waving his hand at them while saying « no it's fine ».
'What's fine?' Joe thought, 'Is he standing up for me? Telling them not to worry about me- I'm just the unpopular weirdo in the corner? Continue to invest your time staring at this very shiny, spinning bottle?'
Everyone looked back at Joe as Harry began to sashay towards him, the man bun tied to his head bouncing with the rhythm of his steps. He leaned on his arm, his hand resting on the back of Joe's chair. Joe watched him with anticipation. Was he coming to confront Joe for being so closed off? Harry leaned his face next to his ear. He quickly found that he was not prepared for what Harry was about to say. Joe threw his arms in front of his chest forming an X as he exclaimed « Absolutely not! »
Harry laughed off the rejection and wasted no time to turn around and give the awaiting audience a shrug of defeat on his way back to the group. Joe tuned his ears in to the conversation after Harry had returned to his original spot on the floor.
"You gonna do that respin now?" Said the back of some random guy's head, or at least that's what it looked like from Joe's angle. Harry spun the bottle and everyone looked at the girl sitting anxiously next to him. Her face flushed a deep crimson and before she could even react, Harry grabbed her chin softly, guiding it to face him as he kissed her deeply with what felt to her like a slight smirk on his lips. Immediately after, Harry looked back in the direction of Joe only to see his absence. His smile fell at the sight. Joe on the other hand was halfway down the street headed straight for his dormitory. Covering his blushing face with his book as he ran.
'What is wrong with that man?' He thought 'Does he think that just because he's Mr. Handsome popular guy that he can do whatever he wants?'
Joe slowed to a stop. He fixed his falling thick black glasses firmly back onto the bridge of his nose.
"That's the last time I allow myself to get side tracked until I graduate. Unlike the rest of these people, I'm actually here to study."
Now that he had finally gained back his composure, he walked back to his dorm room to go to bed. That was the goal however, given the circumstances he would be left tossing and turning for hours overthinking about all of the preposterous things that happened that night. Joe wouldn't let Harry (or anyone else for that matter) be a distraction to his life goals. Harry did try to reach out to him multiple times after that day. Asking him to hang out after class, asking him to have lunch with him, asking him to help him pick out new shoes with him. Eventually after enough rejections, Harry finally got the picture that all Joe really cared about was school. By the time graduation day had arrived, Joe was finally home free.
