It had been a month.
A month since you had met your soulmate, and yet you were still not bonded. A month of actually living in close quarters with him, but it was no use. A whole month of pinning after an alpha who thought you were not good enough for him.
You had met Bucky while shopping for groceries. In an aisle full of swarming people, your eyes had connected with the steel blues of the super soldier and a warmth had spread throughout your body. The way the soldier flinched a little, you were sure he felt that too.
Being an omega, you were always told you'd meet your soulmate one day. And you had patiently waited for one from that day since. You had dreamt of having an alpha to take care of you and love you. And all those dreams had come true in that grocery store aisle.

When you had asked Bucky if he felt the same way, he had agreed but the his very next sentence had been that he wasn't interested in pursuing you. The fact that he acknowledged you as his soulmate but still rejected you hurt the most.
It was as if he didn't even give you a chance to show... how good you could be. You nearly wanted to cry from instinct but had stopped when Steve advised the two of you to talk about this in private.
You had opened gawked when you'd walked into the avengers tower. Knowing that your mate was an avenger had made your chest swell with pride. But all that had been a month ago, and since then you'd been living with the avengers.
The laws around soulmates weren't as strict as they once were. It wasn't a compulsion to be with each other anymore as it was years before. But then the law stated to at least live with each other for a month before deciding to override your biology.
The avengers were all kind to you and most importantly they didn't pity you. Over time you had made a few friends, even a few alphas included. Steve had turned out to be a great friend and you didn't feel unsafe around the alpha.
