I shove the last box at the door and smile at what I've done. Finally, it's finished. Everything is in its place, nothing out of order, and I can finally start anew. There's one week left; now I have plenty of time.
"That took you long enough."
I glance over at my new roommate, "You're telling me. I thought I'd never finish unpacking."
"Me neither," She pops her gum, "Ready for classes to start?"
"Ready as I'll ever be," I shrug, starting to break down the cardboard boxes.
"Still can't believe you'd rather dorm here than stay at home," She shakes her head, her feet dangling from her bunk, "If I could stay at home I would."
"Where are you from again?" I grab all of the boxes. My roommate hops off her bed and opens the door for me.
"Bath, it's a town in the UK," She replies, following me down the hall. We pass a few other students, she waves at a couple of them, "But my fam has been living in Grayton Springs for the last couple of years."
"The other small town not too far from us? I think I've been there a couple times. Anyway, I would love to travel," I say, giving an awkward smile to a staring girl who happened to stop in order to stare. The strange girl walks over to me, wringing her hands as she does.
"I'm sorry for asking, but I have to know," She says, refusing to meet my eyes, "But are you Morgan? The one from the famous Skeleton murders?"
"She's not," My roommate kicks in before I can say anything.
"Oh..."The girl trails off before walking away.
I snort, "She seemed so scared already, you didn't have to do that."
"We've already been bombarded with those questions for hours," She rolls her eyes, "It's tiring."
"It is," I agree. We travel down the stairs to the first level and out the exit.
"Is that blue haired freak waving at you?" My roommate asks as we near the trash bins. I glance over to where she's looking. Dean gives me a shy wave.
"Yeah," I nod, tossing the boxes in. We watch as he walks over to us.
"Hey," Dean smiles once he reaches us, he gives my roommate a nod, "I'm Dean."
"Lexi," My roommate pops her gum.
"So, you ready to get dinner?" Dean asks.
"Sure thing, just let me go grab my stuff," I respond, turning back to the dorm.
"I'll wait over there," Dean motions to a bench, "Nice to meet you, Lexi."
"Yeah, okay," Lexi says as we walk back towards the dorm. The sun glints off of her caramel skin as her, almost fully, black eyes travel away from Dean, "Who's that twat?"
"Dean..."
"Yeah, I know, but how does he know you?"
"Oh, he's my...boyfriend?"
"You don't seem so sure about that." We go back up to our floor of the dorm.
"It's a relatively new thing," I shrug as we continue down the hall.
"Huh, okay," Lexi shrugs, her dark curls bouncing behind her, "Well, have fun."
"You can come with," I offer as we enter the dorm room.
