Dean still hasn't talked to me nor texted me. He refuses to answer anything. Even when I asked Nick about him, all Nick told me was that he just needed to be alone for a bit. Why is everything so difficult? At least no one was killed last night, as far as I know. Lexi keeps laughing at her phone and it's giving me anxiety; I don't even know why. There's five more days until classes start, but with a killer on the loose who even knows what's going to happen.
The school has put in procedures now to ensure our safety; a campus curfew. Now we all have to be back at our dorms by nine pm. Which makes no sense because the killer has killed in the dorms at night. This is just like when Jamie and Luci were the Skeleton. That first curfew accomplished nothing! At least there's the party on Friday, hopefully we can figure something out.
I continue to stare at my phone, refreshing it every five seconds. Nothing from Dean. Nothing from Nick either, but he's spending the day with his sister, Angelica. Groaning, I toss my phone onto the pillow beside me and sit up.
"I'm going for a walk," I declare.
"Kay," Lexi says, not looking up from her phone. I stride out of the room, down the stairs, and out of the dorm building. Glancing around, I choose to go right. I walk down the sidewalk, hands in my hoodie pocket. Maybe I should've brought my phone, for music, and safety. Especially with a killer and everything. Ugh, who even cares!? I'm sure Dean would be plenty happy if I died.
I kick a rock as I continue walking, ignoring where I'm going. Until I walk into someone. I stagger back, barely catching myself.
"Watch where you're go-" He cuts off as I look up at him, he's tall, "Are you okay?"
"Uh, sorry," I mutter, staring into his black, slightly violet eyes, "I should've watched where I was going."
"It's all good," He gives me a crooked grin, "No harm done."
"Uhh, cool," I grin back nervously. His black hair dangles in front of his eyes as he continues to stare at me.
"Vincent! Hurry the fuck up!" We both glance over to the voice. A girl taps her foot impatiently as she stands in front of a door leading into the Science building. It takes me a minute until I realize she looks identical to him, except she has pink streaks in her black hair.
"Sorry, Erin," The guy, Vincent, calls back. He turns to me again, "You going to be okay?"
"Um, yep," I nod, "I will definitely watch where I'm going from now on."
"Great," He grins again, "I'll catch you later."
"Yeah, later," I mutter as I watch him jog over to his sister. I realize I'm just standing here like and idiot and begin to walk again. I wonder if he'll be at the party. No, never mind, I have enough issues. Shut up brain.
...
I eventually make my way back to the dorm, but once I get to my room I see that Lexi isn't here. Shrugging, I hop onto my bed and pick my phone back up. Nothing from Dean, but Nick has messaged me. I tap on the notification.
Nick
-Hey, finally back from hanging with my sister. Want to do something?
-Hey, sorry it took so long to answer, I went for a walk
-What are you thinking?
-Grab some dinner at the cafeteria? I can see if Dean's interested?
-Sounds good, I'll see you, or both of you, there
-See you there
I slip my phone into my pocket and head back out. It doesn't take me long to walk to the cafeteria. I spot Nick waiting outside the entrance, but I don't see Dean.
"I'm guessing he didn't want to come," I say once I reach Nick.
"No, sorry," Nick replies, giving me a worried look.
"I'm sure it's fine," I shrug, heading inside the cafeteria, "He'll be ready when he's ready."
"What's he so upset about anyway?" Nick asks as we scour for a free table.
"Uh..." I trail off not really wanting to bring that up, "Just stuff."
"Stuff?" Nick asks, "Really?"
"Yeah, stuff," I nod, picking a table.
"Morgan," Nick grabs my elbow and spins me around to face him, "You can tell me. I saw how weird he was with Lexi. What's going on? Is he cheating on you? Do I need to punch him?"
"What? No. He was actually, um, jealous..."
"Jealous?"
"Of you..."
"Me? Why?" Nick actually seems confused.
"Because he thinks I've been making googly eyes at you," I sigh.
"That's ridiculous," Nick scoffs, but he slowly lets go of my elbow, "You don't have those feelings anymore. We've already been over it whenever you told me you were dating Dean."
"Yeah, right," I shrug, "Who knows why he's being so weird. I'm going to get food." Before Nick can say anything else I dash towards the food. This is so awkward. What the hell is wrong with me?
Once I get my food I come back to our table, Nick is already there with a plate of food. He's holding his phone and texting fast. My stomach drops as anxiety settles in.
"Who are you texting?" I ask him suspiciously as I sit across from him.
"Dean."
"Why?"
"Because he's being dumb. He's ruining something good over jealousy," Nick grumbles, "He's an idiot."
"An idiot..." I mutter as I watch Nick continue to text.
"He won't answer!" Nick groans.
"Just leave it," I say, "Talk to him when you head back to the dorm, or something."
"He's going to hate himself if he realizes too late," Nick mutters, glaring at his phone screen.
"Realizes what?" I ask, pushing tater tots around my plate.
Nick finally looks at me, his eyes greener than blue meet my own blue ones, "Um, that...don't worry about it. Let's just eat."
"Okay..." I say as he puts his phone away, "So, the party on Friday..we're really doing this?"
"Yeah, I guess we are," Nick sighs, "I know it's a bad idea, but it's the only thing I can think of that would give us some leads."
"I really hope it gives us leads and not...less friends..."
"Me too."
