They flew to the other side of the island, and landed next to a river. They all sat down to catch their breath.
"What happened back there?" Winger asked once they had flown a safe distance away from Melodia. "Was I singing?"
"And was I dancing?" Cutter asked in horror, his eyes popping wide open in shock.
"And was I doing this?" Burple asked while doing the worm while Cutter gave him a side-eyed look.
"It was that dragon," Dak responded with a frantic wave of his hands. "Her voice somehow hypnotized you all to sing."
"She's a Songwing." Leyla explained while flipping through the pages of her dragon diary. "I didn't realize it at first because Songwings are supposed to live in pairs."
"In pears? That sounds really cramped and sticky." Burple said with a confused look on his face.
"Burps, she didn't mean the fruit pears." Summer clarified for him. "She means pairs as in two of a kind." She added with a small giggle
Burple blinked and his eyes went wide as the realization finally hit him. "Oh. Right. That makes much more sense."
"Yeah, well, this Songwing seems to live with an entire backup band." Cutter exclaimed with a small frown and a wide-eyed look on his face.
"I've heard about Songwings before, but never actually met one. They're supposed to have "very melodic voices said to calm down anyone who might attack them." She read aloud to the others.
"But Melodia is using her voice to make dragons sing with her." Summer added in with a worried frown forming on her face.
"Exactly. I've never heard of one doing that before." Leyla mused to herself with a helpless look on her face.
"I've never heard of any of this before." Burple muttered with a heavy sigh.
"Luckily, her song doesn't affect humans, or we all would've joined her crazy flying chorus." Dak said while making wide gestures with his hands.
Summer glared at him and shot a powerful blast of water straight into his face.
"Need I remind you that your sister is part dragon?" Summer muttered with a scowl on her face. "Sheesh! What a birdbrain!"
Summer sighed softly and lazily flicked her tail from left to right, thinking her mate's brother wasn't the brightest mallet in the toolbox.
"Don't you agree with me, Ley?" Summer asked her mate with a long drawn-out sigh.
Leyla giggled and nodded her head, touching her forehead to Summer's own.
At hearing her mate's words, Leyla's eyes went wide and she turned to Summer with a baffled look on her face.
"Hey, speaking of me being part dragon, if Melodia's songs only effect dragons, then why did it have no effect on me?" Summer looked thoughtful as she tried to think of an answer to her mate's question.
"I'm not sure, love, but maybe it's cause you're part human?" The sea-foam green Fastfin said with a small shrug.
Leyla smiled and scratched under her dragon's chin. "I love you so much, Sum." She whispered softly into her mate's ear.
"Hm, maybe it's cause you're human right now?" Summer chanced a guess while flicking her tail at the girl.
"You have a good point there, love. Maybe that's why it had no effect, but I don't feel like testing that theory." She mumbled with a small shake of her head.
The others all nodded their heads in agreement.
"But Dak has a good idea though," Winger pointed out with a thoughtful look crossing his face. "Maybe you two could go and have a little talk with Melodia."
