chapter five: friend or foe?

She walked up the rock, "All cats old enough to climb the trees, swim the gorge, walk the narrow cliffs, and fight with the power of the sun, gather around the suns-rock!" She yowled, she had combined all the clans calls, with an extra bit, to call her clan, riverfur sat in his spot, she had decided to make him deputy after all, i wish i could tell him how i felt, i can guess what he thinks, probably says all that he thinks, her thoughts were broken as all cats came forward, "we have three new cats, have you thought of your new names yet?" She asked felix, fluffy, and bracken, "yes, i shall be smallnose, fluffy will be softkit, and bracken will be brackenheart, " felix answered, "may starclan approve of these new cats, meeting dismissed!" She hopped down, "icepelt will you give them a tour? And riverfur may you go on a patrol with me?" Sunstar asked, icepelt nodded and left, "of course i will softstuff~" riverfur teased, "what?!" SUNSTAR POV

"What?" She asked, "i smell something" riverfur replied, Sunstar sniffed the air, "i know what it is!" She said, parting the bushes, "an Opossum! And a kit at that," she exclaimed, "isnt it possum, and can we eat it?" Riverfur questioned, "its both, and NO, you cant, w- i will care for it and itll be like ou- my kit!" Sunstar added,"what were you saying before you said 'my kit'?" Riverfur asked her, "nothing!" She hissed, "seriously, it sounded alot like ou-" he was cut off "I SAID IT WAS NOTHING! just leave it!" she hissed, "No! Im seriou vvs, what were you saying" he had a glint of happiness in his eye, "I SAID LEAVE IT! JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! STARCLAN, CAN YOU LISTEN FOR ONCE!" She snapped, then she realized what she said, "a-alright" riverfur said, lowering his head, his eyes looked like he was about to cry, "w-wai-" he cut her off, "N-no ita fine, i understand" he said trotted off, Sunstar sat, riverfur had already gone far enough that he couldn't hear her, "but... i love you" she whisperWed, she went inside the bush, closing it, looking at the baby Opossum, she curled around it

RIVERFURS POV

Wow, she really does hate me, doesnt she? Why did she make me deputy if she hates me, "Riverfur! Wheres Sunstar?" Willowpaw questioned, "shes still patroling," he said hastely, he walked to the warriors den, no one was there, he went to the back of the den, he started sobbing, eventually falling asleep

Awhile later he woke up, "uh-" riverfur heard Sunstar,he glanced at her, it seemed like she had tear stains on the fur under her eyes, but he dismissed it as the lighting, "just leave it" he muttered, looking away, "listen- im sorry for what i said" she said walking towards him, "i-" she stopped, riverfur just stared at the ground, "you were right, i dont listen, do i?" He said finally, he glanced at her, she seemed like she was crying, but she was looking away so it was hard to tell, "i- bu- " she sighed, walking away,

SUNSTARS POV

I guess he hates me now, I think i hate me now, I have to try to apologize, what does he like? He hasn't come out of the warriors den in awhile, I'll get him some soaked moss and a mouse, she thought, getting up, she looked at the Opossum, "possumkit, I will teach you to talk, you seem old enough to eat prey," she whispered, she walked out of her den, "smallnose guard my den, possumkit isn't allowed out," she asked, she grabbed some moss from a rock, putting it in the small stream in camp, she held it with her claw as she walked to the prey pile, she grabbed a mouse, hobbling over to the warriors den, she nudged riverfur, who grumbled, she dropped the mouse, and moss, " I got you some water and prey," she muttered, riverfur turned, reluctantly eating, he licked the moss a bit, "riverfur, do you...." She stopped, looking at him, "d-do y-you-" she stuttered, feeling a bit faint, stay awake! Don't cry! stay awake! Don't cry! stay awake! Don't cry! She repeated, she sighed, " d-do you hate me?" She whispered, yet riverfur still heard her, "what? Why would I hate you?" He exclaimed, "I thought you hated me! I was trying not to bother you!" Sunstar stared, "I was just angry, I don't hate you, but why were you still ignoring me after i apologized?" She asked, "i Don't know, I guess it just still hurt," he said, staring at her, "I don't think I've ever hated you... Riverfur, i- I think I love you" she said, staring at the ground,
