chapter eight: training

From now on most of the POV will be lakepaw and twigpaw, some other povs but mostly those two (two: mentions of gore and violence)

"Smallnose are we doing fighting training!" Twigpaw asked, "close, defense, to defend yourself from the wolf, remember, it may seem rough, but I'm going soft on you compared to a wolf that wants to kill you," Smallnose informed her, "oooh" she said in awe, "heres a good area, bushes to hide, wander off so your in sight of me but you can't see or scent me, then come back" he instructed her, she nodded, walking off, hmm, sime herbs, I'll tell smallnose about those, she waited a bit, then turned, smallnose had disappeared, she walked over cautiously, her ears swiveling around, her mouth slightly open, trying to find his scent, she heard a slight rustle in the bush, she got in a defensive position, looking at the exact spot it was, her ears directed towards it, suddenly smallnose jumped out, twigpaw clumsily jumped to the side, almost falling, yet she caught her footing and turned, smallnose gave a quick nod, before pouncing at her, she rolled on her back, kicking her back legs, she barely grazed his stomache, "good, but could do better," smallnose said, getting off her, and back into his fighting position, twigpaw fake-fell, sliding under him and pawing his stomache to simulate clawing it, she pushed on it, sliding behind him, getting a mouthful of dirt in doing so, she got up a little disoriented, she spat out the dirt, smallnose nodded at her, then pounced, pinning her on her back, she went limp, as if she gave up, smallnose raised a paw ready to swipe as twigpaw kicked her back legs, she had misjudged where they would hit, as they hit his tail he swiped aggressively at her muzzle, "ow!" She whimpered, she tensed up, using her free paw to swipe at his face, throwing dirt in his eyes, disorienting him, "I did not mean to get dirt in your eyes! Sorry!" She apologized, as he pawed at his face to get the dirt out, she wriggled free, she dug her paws into the ground, claws out, she turned, running, smallnose looked up after getting the dirt out of his eyes, and started chasing her,  her paws beated across the ground, her claws pulling things out by the roots, she looked and saw some yarrow, she looked back to see how far smallnose was, far enough to stop and grab it, she grabbed it and continued running, skidding to a stop, she looked back, and started kicking dirt into his eyes,

A little while later

"alright, lets get back to camp" smallnose yawned, the two trotted back to camp, "icepelt, twigpaw got you some yarrow," smallnose pointed to twigpaw, shwndropped the yarrow and walked to her den, "hey lakepaw" she purred, " I learned defense!" She purred, "nice, I learned hunting" the two curled up and fell asleep

SUNSTARS POV

Well, the gathering is tonight, that means we fight the wolf and save our forest next moon, thats terrifying she sighed, riverfur brushed up against her, "gatherings always make me nervous," Sunstar sighed, riverfur gave her ear a quick lick, "dont worry, we'll be fine," he purred, "we should leave now," she said, getting up, she yowled for the rest of the clan
