11: 10 things i know about you
Draco hadn't been able to get the Greengrass sisters out of his head. Last night's Slytherin conmon room party he'd co-hosted with Pansy was their little scheme to achieve their goals; Pansy to seal the deal with Blaise; and Draco to observe Astoria Greengrass' attitude at a party filled with drugs, boys and alcohol. It's safe to say that Astoria had passed the test. Last night, she was a good girl who sipped water and kept to her circle of girl friends by the lounges.
Astoria had stayed in her school uniform as did the rest of her friends, and so did Draco. He'd even requested for Theodore Nott to spit some game onto Astoria to see how she would handle it. In essence, Theodore didn't get to say more than five words before Astoria turned her heel and disappeared into the crowd. She'd worn her chocolate hair sleek straight last night, as straight as her ironed tie and uniform. Her robes were off, so Draco had been able to steal glances at her legs - sunkissed to perfection - and how good they looked walking away.
He'd imagined what they would look like walking away from him during an argument. If Draco had for some reason failed to live up to the standards of Astoria in a relationship (he just knew she would have strict demands). Astoria was the confrontation type. She wouldn't stay with somebody she didn't deem good enough for her time. Then baam. She'd break up with you and it would hit you like whiplash as you hadn't even seen it coming.
He had potions class at the moment with Snape and he'd sat beside Pansy. She looked good considering she failed to bed Blaise last night and Draco couldn't help but poke fun.
"Quickie was so quick my bed stayed the same last night," he said with a gentle nudge and a chuckle.
Pansy rolled her eyes toward him. "It wasn't a quickie. For your information, Blaise and I have a stronger relationship than some five minute sex like you and Daphne."
Draco began to laugh out loud. "Daphne and I go way longer than five minutes."
Pansy snorted. "Doesn't sound that way when she talks about it."
Suddenly, professor Snape's steps shut the noise of the room in a heartbeat. He marched toward the front and shut all the blinds down with the flick of his wand and pulled at the string of the projector screen. He'd eyed each and everyone of his students with pure intimidation and taunted them with a sneer. Draco squirmed in his seat.
"If you will all look to the screen, we'll begin our lesson on the potion called Draught of Living Death." Snape had slurred the last few words with a menacing tone.
Draco suddenly got an inkling feeling to look behind him and when he did, he saw Alicia. She'd missed potions class on Wednesday and he'd began to think she slipped into a wave of depression from falling down like thunder from her throne. He was almost happy. But to his surprise, Alicia bounced back pretty quickly and even went to class, not just on time, but early.
One of his goals in throwing the party last night was to witness friendless Alicia's reaction to a party where she wasn't the centre of attention. Where people didn't play the "Alicia Roulette" and bet on which Hogwarts location she hadn't had sex in. Where people didn't chant her name like a ritual as she ran through a number of shots. Where boys didn't come up to him only to ask if he could help them score the Alicia Malfoy. He'd cringed at the memories.
But right beside Alicia sat Daphne.
"The Draught of the Living Death potion causes users to fall into a death-like slumber..." interrupted Snape, and Draco had the urge to master that potion to sneak into Alicia's drink.
"Can anyone tell me the most important ingredient to concuct this potion? The ingredient that gives it its sedating charm?" asked Snape, hoping that nobody knew and he could carry on with insults on his students' laziness. But Hermione Granger's hands shot up immediately.
Snape looked past her staggering hand and instead, focused his eyes on Alicia's table. Draco smirked to himself as he held his head low. There was no way Alicia could answer this question. The girl didn't know her right from her left. And he would have no choice but to celebrate her public humiliation.
"Ms. Greengrass?" Snape called.
Draco's ears perked up and he turned his head to watch Daphne with amusement. Daphne was something of an Alicia herself and she'd resorted to stutters and broken sentences to fill the silence in the air from her unknowing.
"Pity," commented Snape. "Your younger sister successfully concucted this potion just yesterday."
Astoria was no Alicia, that's for sure. She couldn't be more different to her older sister, more responsible and more Draco's type.
"Please, sir," begged Hermione as she continued to flail her hand around.
"The Valerian root has the natural sedating component and is the most important and difficult ingredient to work with," finished Snape. Draco and Pansy gave each other a look before proceeding to snicker to themselves.
Pansy's eyes began to water as Draco put his hand up and flailed it around with immense enthusiasm, mocking the muggle-born Gryffindor.
"Enough, Mr. Malfoy," hushed Snape without a care. "10 points from Gryffindor."
Draco and Pansy would laugh to themselves again.
Ron Weasley and Harry Potter made a protesting noise as they threw their hands up. "Sir, if I may-" began Harry.
"-You may not," answered Snape.
"Hermione hasn't done anything," finished Harry. "It was Malfoy who disturbed the class mocking Hermione."
Draco made a crying face to Pansy.
"I took 10 points fron Gryffindor, Mr. Potter, because Ms. Granger spoke out of turn - even if it is to ask to be chosen. I do not tolerate know-it-all's in this class. If I do not begin my lesson in five seconds, I will take 20 more from Gryffindor for being a distraction - if that's alright with you, Mr. Potter."
Harry coulf only swallow his curses down his throat.
The next day, Draco saw Daphne in the halls wearing her winter clothes. She'd curled her hair that day and carried a purse with her. He suspected she was going to Hogsmeade and volunteered to go with her.
"Are you shopping or something?" asked Draco, wanting to know what he'd signed up for.
"Ugh, yes," sighed Daphne. "My little sister's birthday's next week and I have to buy a gift."
Draco swore his heart fluttered. It might've been too early to say, but he'd basically imprinted on her and was determined to have Astoria Greengrass.
"Is there going to be a party?"
Daphne shook her head. "Have you met my sister?"
Draco said no to himself. "I'll help you pick out a gift. Maybe I could give her a little something too."
As it turns out, Astoria was a hard person to gift. They'd basically ran across all of Hogsmeade's stores, shops and boutiques and none suited the interests of the younger Greengrass sister. Daphne had resorted to keychains at this point but Draco simply wouldn't let her. He'd been asking her questions about Astoria all day, playing it off as a form of help so Daphne could get some gift ideas, but Draco had his own little thing going on.
Here are the things he's learned about Astoria:
1. She was gifted at Potions, like him
2. She has a rabbit as her familiar
3. On her sixth birthday, her one request was a book that Daphne couldn't remember (she claimed it was something old)
4. Purple was her favourite colour
5. She had a back-up favourite in case purple ran out: blue (she claimed that many people liked the colour blue so blue is always highly stacked and produced)
6. But if that did run out: red
7. She loved constellations
8. She was highly competitive especially in support for feminism
9. She loved psychology books
10. She used to have a crush on Draco when she was eight
