Matt's P.O.V.
The long day had only just started as me and Foggy were talking to a client. We had been going over Mr. Riack's story about the events that had unfolded at his store only a few nights prior. The basics of it being that two men came in and held him up at gunpoint trying to rob his store only he didn't take that well. Firing his own weapon at one of the men he was now being sued by said man for damages and hospital bill payments. It was fairly clean-cut and simple which after the night I had I kind of needed something a little easy.
Patrol had ended in me bloody being patched up on the couch. I was still fairly sore and couldn't move at 100% just yet. I tuned back in right as Foggy began to rise from his seat. we said our goodbyes to Mr. Riack before sitting back down and going over a few details of what we might need to prepare for in this court proceeding. As Foggy was talking I couldn't help but get distracted by the soft scent of Rose and Sandalwood as time ticked it slowly got closer and a nervous heartbeat seemed to accompany it. I tilted my head at the person heel clad steps stopped outside our door.
*knock* *knock* *knock*
The three knocks echoed throughout the office. They were confident knocks filled with determination.
"Oh shit, I think that's the new girl" Foggy chimed as he rose from his seat yet again. I could feel my brows scrunch as the question left my mouth.
"When did we get a new Employee?" I could hear Foggy as he pondered on what to say for a moment.
"Well she applied a week or so ago but due to your random absence for the past week me and Karen interviewed her and soon after hired her not only due to the fact she was the only applicant but because she had a good resume and was overall a good candidate...Plus she may or may not be fairly attractive" As he spoke I couldn't help but laugh at the last part because of course Foggy wanted to hire another attractive woman to work in the office.
I could hear Karen as she said hello in an excited tone clearly excited not to have to deal with me and Foggy alone anymore. I couldn't help but smile a little when a voice of silk seemed to wrap itself around my ear. It was soft and smooth not speaking too loudly she too sounded excited as she spoke.
They walked into the conference room still talking for a moment as Karen made a sly comment about looking out for me. As Karen finished out her sentence I felt a pair of eyes lock on me.
"Well hello, Mr.Murdock it's nice to finally meet you" I could hear the soft smile in her voice, and as she said my name I felt an odd shiver go down my spine.
"Please you can call me Matt and if I may apologize but my colleagues haven't told me your name yet"I offered her my hand as I spoke. She was sunshine in a bottle and I could feel her warmth on my skin as she got closer her hand was soft yet fairly calloused and I could feel a scar or two along her knuckle as she grasped my hand.
"My name is Amber... Amber Adams and I'm your new office assistant I'm here to help we anything anyone needs whether it be a quick coffee run or filing documents or even bouncing ideas off of for a statement" As she spoke I felt intent on listening only realizing I was still holding her hand when she pulled it away and all the warmth she gave me along with it.
I could tell Foggy was staring probably thinking up a sarcastic comment like... "Here we go again"
That.
"Why do you always do that man... Give me a chance for once" Foggy wined clearly playing on the age-old joke that has now become accustomed to our little firm. Karen and I laughed and so did Amber. Her laugh was genuine and it made this warm spot in my chest slowly grow.
After a little bit of friendly banter, Amber went off to help Karen while I and Foggy finished up some details on this case planning to revise it tomorrow after Foggy realized he needed to finish a statement for a case he has tomorrow.
Gathering everything in a file we walk out of the conference room. I go to hand the folder to Karen as Amber reaches for something and as my hand brushes against her arm, I can feel the silk shirt she is wearing and the warmth that seeps from her skin that lay under it. As she pulls her arm back I can tell she has rolled up her sleeves. "oh sorry Matt" My name on her lips sounds nearly angelic making it hard for the devil in me not to imagine how that angelic voice may sound when it is speaking... No screaming from sinful acts.
I shake those thoughts from my head quickly annoyed at myself. I utter a simple apology before barricading myself in my office.
What the fuck Matt you literally just met her nearly a few hours ago and she is your employee this can not happen
I scold myself for trying to get back to work but every so often my mind drifts and strays back to those thoughts causing me utter frustration Until its finally time to go home. Only signaled by Foggy muttering to Karen about catching up with her and Amber later as he had to finish his statement. The prominent clicking of the keys on his board signaled he was hard at work.
A knock on my door causes me to look up in the direction of my door.
"Is there anything you need before Karen and I head home?" Her voice was laced with a slight hint of being tired.
"No I'll be fine have a good night" I could hear her nod before she laughed at herself softly for the simple mistake. Once she had said goodnight I listened to her as she and Karen walked down the hall unable to concentrate on anything else as her scent lingered in my office. I didn't know why but this woman may just turn out to be my downfall.
