Everyone was scrambling to get ready for the horror festival Millie's school was hosting for a charity event. So she wasn't too bothered or surprised when she got bumped into multiple times.
But it did startle her when a guy practically knocked her over making her lose her footing. Before she meets a painful fate, he catches her with one hand on her back asking her in a really soft and concerned tone, "are you okay?"
Millie looks up and sees a very attractive guy standing over her. He has dirty blonde hair with brown sparking eyes that are boring into hers, and his eyebrows are bunched together still waiting her response. Millie jumps up and laughs nervously "I'm okay! Thanks for catching me," she says smiling brightly.
The boy, who stands to be at least 6' in height, returns the smile and Millie can't help but be in awe by the way his face changes as he smiles. "I'm glad you're okay, and I'm sorry for bumping into. I really need to watch where I'm going."
"Oh no, no, don't worry about it. My names Millie," she greets extending her hand out to the nice stranger who takes her hand and says "Trent." Millie doesn't want to let go of his hand but she knows she has to. "I'm actually on my way to the gym to see what my assignment is for the festival so I'll see you around," she waves a quick goodbye, barely taking a few steps before she hears him call out behind her.
"Wait! I'm actually on my way there too, can I walk with you?" Millie tries to hide her excitement and nods at the boy next to her.
They both talk about the festival and how excited they are to be working in it, and before they know it they're at the gym. Millie walks over to the list that has everyone's names and jobs, she scans it and finds her name.
Trent Tucker- Haunted Maze
Millie Turner- Haunted MazeShe smiles when she notices the name right above hers. "Looks like you're stuck with me" Millie remarks turning to Trent with a smirk on her face.
"Lucky me"

Trent and Millie gather all the equipment they need and start to carry it over to the room where they need to create the maze.Millie silently struggles with taking a heavy box, yet Trent still notices. "It's okay I can carry it for you," he says and takes the box from her before she can protest. She considers putting up a fight and taking it back but decides to just let him take it for her.
"Thanks Prince Charming."
He grins at her and waves his finger in her face, "Oh no, no, no, not Prince Charming. Ghost face," he corrects her as he pulls the mask over his face. She giggles and rolls her eyes as they continue walking.
They both start decorating the place and decide how it's gonna work. Trent tells Millie he wants to be in the maze scaring people, so she gives him the ghost face mask and his job is exactly that. Millie explains she doesn't really like scary mazes that much and chooses to just monitor the door and let people in.
Millie and Trent finish too early and have half an hour to hangout until the charity event starts. They stand outside, Trent is in his costume with his mask resting on top of his head, so his face is still visible. Millie is wearing a pink dress with a sweetheart neckline and has random bunny ears she found in a box.
Trent is standing in front of her with his hand on the wall beside her head, hanging his head low while on his phone. Millie avoids eye contact because she can feel her face burning up already due to the close proximity.
"Oh my god it's so hot" Trent whines fanning himself and shoving his phone in his jeans under the dark cloak.
"It's not even that bad, your only hot because your in that costume," she comments with an eye roll.
Trent looks at her and smirks, "Oh trust me baby, I'm always hot. Outside of the costume and with it on." Millie looks at him embarrassed and that's when she notices how much closer they are than they were just a few minutes prior. He looks at her intensely and she's not sure if she imagines it but he glances at her lips leaning in even closer, she feels everything go silent and she can hear his breathing as her heart starts beating loudly in her ears.
"ATTENTION VOLUNTEERS THE FESTIVAL IS STARTING GET IN YOUR PLACES PLEASE"
They both turn away quickly at the sound of the loudspeaker and he offers an awkward bye before going into the maze to get in his place.
—————————
The maze was really popular and the crowd was getting bigger by the minute, everything was running smoothly until a little girl came up to Millie crying. "I left my plushie in the maze!! Can you please get it for me, I need Mr buttons!!" The little girl cried with tears running down her face.Millie smiles at the girl and gets another volunteer to stay with the little girl and alert the crowd it would be a five minute wait. 'Okay, you're fine. Just go in, get the plushie, and get out,' Millie tells herself before taking a deep breath and walking into the maze.
It was much different being on the receiving end of the maze's tricks. The flickering lights and hushed whispers were impressive for a high school function, but awful for the girl's current situation. The key to bringing out true fear in the victims of the maze, was making sure they felt like they were not alone. Unfortunately for Millie, the sudden footsteps and the cursed lullaby did nothing to conceal her fright.
She feels her heart pounding and her breathing gets quicker. Then out of nowhere an actor scares her and Millie screams, sprinting to try to find the exit. She knows she's being dramatic and she feels so stupid because now she's crying, even though the maze was fake and she was almost an adult who shouldn't be afraid of this stupid maze. She meant it when she said experiencing scary mazes was not her forte.
Millie slows down and finds, what she assumes to be 'Mr. Buttons,' in a dark corner. When she approaches and grabs the brown bunny, another person emerges. Millie starts crying and panicking again from fear and tries to run away but is stopped when she feels the person grab her wrist. "Stop! Let me go!" She yells but she pauses when the actor tilts her chin up. Millie sees the familiar ghost face mask, then he pulls her in for a hug, "it's just me, you're okay," he reassures her and takes his mask off revealing it's only Trent.
Millie embraces him and cries even harder into his cloak-covered chest. He pulls away and asks her what's wrong, she explains the whole situation. Trent leads her to the exits and covers her eyes the whole way there hugging her tight, but now the dread she felt before is only replaced by giddiness and security.
When they make it to the exit, Trent opens the door for Millie and shes greeted by the little girl who is ecstatic to see her little plushie.
The little girl leaves with her mother and Mille turns back to Trent, "Well that was really embarrassing," she says laughing sheepishly.
"There's nothing wrong with being scared, it's totally normal," he replies smiling softly at her and she can't help it. Millie hugs Trent once again but this time when she pulls away and looks at him he pecks her on the forehead. "I'll see you after this thing is over, miss you already," he says then gets back inside leaving Millie smiling like an idiot and thinking about the moment they just shared.
Thank you Mr. Buttons
