I walked down the sidewalk of my busy town, leaving imprints of my shoes in the snow as I went. The frigid air nipped at my nose and cheeks and I could see snowflakes falling from the sky all around me.
I looked ahead, seeing the familiar coffee shop where I promised to meet C/n. I haven't spoken with them much since high school. They wanted to reconnect with me over some coffee.
I used to have a crush on C/n, but never took it too seriously. Which was probably a good thing, we were just kids.
I reached my gloved hand to open the glass door, hearing the bell as I walked in. I soon saw C/n smiling at me from across the room in a booth. I made my way over to them, taking my gloves off on the way.
"Hey!" C/n called out as I sat down across from them.
"Hey, how are you?" I asked, smiling at them warmly.
"I'm great. I haven't seen you in forever, you look amazing!" C/n spoke, I felt my cheeks get hot from the compliment.
"Thanks! What have you been up to the past couple years?"
C/n started to talk and I started to zone out. I'm starting to realize why I liked them so much in high school. They are so sweet.
I had been talking with C/n for so long, I didn't even notice it get dark.
"Well, do you want to go see the lights?" C/n asked with a grin.
"Of course."
We walked out of the cafe together, it took a lot in me to not hold hands with them.
We arrived to the park where all the lights were set up, flashing christmas things like santa, reindeers, trees, and snowmen.
I could see C/n's eyes lighting up with pure joy every time the lights would change into something new. They looked so adorable. I couldn't help but smile at them.
"Are you seeing this? It's so pretty!" C/n exclaimed into the cold winter night.
I noticed I had sipped away the last of my coffee, shaking the cup a bit to make sure I didn't have any left.
"Be right back," I spoke, walking away to the nearest trash can to throw away the cup.
I turned around, beginning to say something, but was interrupted when something cold slammed into my upper leg.
It was a snowball.
I looked up with a shocked smile, seeing them hunched over giggling at me.
I dug my gloved hands into the snow, bringing up a mound and packing it all together into a ball.
C/n looked up, their joyful expression soon turning worried as they saw me winding back my arm to throw the snowball.
C/n irrupted into laughter as soon as my snowball hit them and exploded everywhere.
Soon, there were snowballs flying left and right. Our laughters merged together and sounded like a scene out of a disney movie.
C/n collapsed into the snow, breathing hard but still laughing to themselves. I walked over to them, laying down next to them, out of breath.
We looked up at the sky, seeing the white powder fall.
"I guess I should take you home now, huh?"
Me and C/n arrived at my house, my dogs barking at us from the windows. We stepped onto the porch. It felt so magical. It felt like this is what was always supposed to happen.
I looked at them, seeing them smiling softly at me. Their eyes were tired yet thankful.
"Can I see you again?" C/n whispered, placing their hands on my waist.
I nodded softly then leaned into them, kissing them passionately. My hands gripped onto their arms. I was finally living my high school dream. I could feel a little piece of my inner child crying happy tears.
I knew C/n was the one now. They were healing the sad little kid that was still inside me. I couldn't help but let a tear slip out as we kissed.
I pulled away from the kiss, C/n's hand immediately making its way to my cheek, wiping away the stray tear.
"That was long awaited. I've loved you for so many years, Y/n."
All I could do was stare at them with teary eyes.
"I love you too."
