Hello everyone!
It's officially been just over one year since I began writing Gumball stories and one-shots. It's wild to think that 12 months have already gone by, just like that. I've released so many stories and oneshots in that time, and my writing and style have really improved a lot since those earlier stories.
Before starting this journey with you all I had never even considered writing stories or oneshots before. In fact, I just thought of fanfictions as nothing more than cringy ship fests, poorly written incest, even more cringy angst that is way darker than the series would ever go, weird ass crossovers or the most batshit insane crazy nonsensical canon-destroying shit you've ever seen...which let's be fair, pretty much is the majority of Gumball fics.
However, that changed when I finally finished my first complete watch-through of The Amazing World of Gumball.
I had seen a couple of episodes of the first season before, waaaay back when I was only nine and it first began airing, and although I really enjoyed it I never got the chance to properly get into it at the time. This was due to the fact that my parents got rid of our TV demand package a few months after the show began airing, meaning I no longer had a way to access Cartoon Network to watch it or any other show I watched at the time. It was back to lame old CBBC and CITV (our British version of PBS Kids and... I don't know, Kids' WB?) for me. Damn you Mum and Dad! God, I wish i could have been around in the fandom whilst the show was still airing...or when the original six seasons were anyway.
After that happened years went by, I grew older, and I basically forgot about the show entirely. That was until I found myself being reminded of it when I saw random clips of the show starting to pop up on YouTube. I started watching clips every so often, mainly of the later-season stuff I missed out on, and was surprised to learn that the show was still going. Eventually in late 2019-ish, once I found out the show had ended, I decided that now was a good a time as any to sit down and watch the entire series properly from start to finish.
And that I did. I binged multiple episodes at a time, slowly making my way through the show, episode by episode, season by season, until eventually, it was over. And I found myself feeling...disappointed.
I had genuinely fallen in love with the show, and I wanted more of it, but it was over. It was done. There wasn't going to be anymore. (or so we all thought!)
As time went by I continued to think of the show, random scenarios and ideas forming in my head for various episodes, one-shots, scenes, and other scenarios. And as I thought about them more they only continued to grow and develop further and further.
After a few months, I decided I wanted to do something with them. I wanted to share my ideas and love for the show with the rest of the fandom. The question was how.
That was when I stumbled upon fanfiction.net. I can't remember how exactly, but I found out about it and all of the Gumball stories and oneshots people posted on it. And, story and oneshot ideas were exactly what I had. But did I dare write and post something I had generally completely avoided and thought of as a hobby for bored teenage girls wanting to ship YouTubers or TV Show characters together?
I spent a while internally debating, and eventually, I made up my mind.
Fuck it. Why not?
My ideas seemed really good, and more like actual proper episodes than any of the other fanfictions I had seen, and if It was something I enjoyed doing then I didn't see why I shouldn't.
