Shannon Williams, the girl born with the golden voice. The girl that impressed others with her vocals. The girl who's long and difficult backstory inspired others to pursue music. The girl born in between two different cultures. The girl who spent her life trying to find her own identity and meaning.

She has a beautiful mix of Asian and European features that highlighted her unique background. Her mother was Korean and her father was Welsh leading a mix of cultures. Being the youngest of three wasn't easy, she lived in the shadow of her two older stepbrothers. They had a knack for acting and she soon followed.

Try and try again, she could never top her brothers. It wasn't her fault, she had less experience due to her age, but one performance was what surprised her. She performed a rendition of Time to Say Goodbye and the way she hit the high notes shook everyone present.

It was that performance that she began to shift into music. Life was still tough for the young girl. She was a constant source of ridicule from her peers. She didn't Asian nor white enough. The worst word she heard was "half breed". It was a name that was stuck to her whenever she went.

Girls weren't kind, they would gossip and act like you didn't exist. Virtually nobody wanted to be friends with her. Anytime she tried, she would get humiliated. The only area she felt comfortable, was the space of her own living room. She felt at peace where nobody would judge her. She stood against the mirror for the hundredth time.

"What is so wrong with me? Is it my face they laugh at? Am I not pretty enough?" Shannon tried fixing her hair and apply slight blushes to make her face more natural. She was at the age where girls were beginning to grow. Her own growth spurt hasn't fully kicked in yet.

"Ugly..."

"Freak of nature..."

"Half breed..."

"Stop laughing at me..." She covered her ears to stop the laughing.

"I'M NOT UGLY!!!" In complete panic, she grabbed her portable mirror and thew it against the main mirror, cracking it.

"I HATE THIS!! I HATE THAT I CAN'T LOOK LIKE THEM!!" Shannon put her knees to chin hiding her face.

"Shannon is that you?" Asked her mother.

"Leave me alone mummy I want to be left alone!" She cried covering herself with the blanket.

"I know you aren't feeling well. I heard about it today. If you want to talk, feel free to do so."

"I don't want to! Go away mum!!" She replied.

"Please Shannon you're my daughter. You can't hide in there, bottling your emotions never works trust me. Just please Shannon I promise it'll be just for a little bit." Her mother urges her.

Shannon sighed forcing herself to unlock the door. Her mother was obviously worried about her. Her parents always worried about her. Her brothers get worried her. Everybody worries about her.

The mother wiped her tears.

"I just wish I could take your place so you don't have to go through it. It pains me because you truly are one of a kind Shannon. You may not see it, but I do. No matter what all those kids tell you, you are not ugly. I know it's hard because of the way you look, but don't let those words weigh you down. You're stronger than this, besides you got the voice of an angel and nobody can take that away from you. If you need a shoulder to cry, then reach out to me. We'll get through it together." Her mother gave it a comforting hug.

This was something Shannon will personally cherish for many years to come.

Shannon POV

There I was at stage getting to sing for a local talent show. By the point everyone in my family knows about my singing talent. I am not sure why I have it, but I learned to accept that it's a gift that was given to me. At first, I sung because I was needed something to calm myself but I now sing for pleasure.
