"Why would any kid go to school after his family and girlfriend died?" I asked as we exited the conference room. We'd just finished making the plans to ambush the kid. But there was something still nagging at the back of my head. "He's obviously hiding, and from the looks of it, he doesn't want anyone to know that he's alive, either. Why would he risk that by going to school? I mean...it's school! Nobody likes school. Particularly kids with troublemaker streaks and learning disabilities like that."

"Speaking from personal experience, Barton?" Tony snarked.

Truthfully, I only knew because Laura had a couple of nephews with similar disabilities - the ADHD, the dyslexia, the troublemaker personality.

The Stoll brothers.

The name itself was just asking for trouble. I could remember how relieved Laura had been to replace that little detail of her life. Sometimes I think it's the only reason she said 'yes'.

Her older sister, however, never got the chance. She had two kids, not twins, but close enough in age and similar enough in personality, they might as well have been. They were eight and nine when their mother died.

Nobody could figure out what happened. The police at the time said something about an animal attack. But, what animal can walk through Philadelphia, walk into a third-floor apartment, and, from what I saw of the reports of the place, maul a woman nearly beyond recognition?

The worst part is that it was the boys who found her.

Laura and I were supposed to take them in, but they managed to escape from police custody before we could even get to the precinct. Yet another mystery to add to the long list that happened on that side of the family.

It's been nearly ten years since then. I joined S.H.I.E.L.D., made a deal with Fury to keep my family safe, and I told no one of their existence.

Not even the team.

"Yeah, yeah, Tony. We can't all be - what was the term you used? - 'genius, playboy, philanthropists'."

"Right ho, Legolas."

I rolled my eyes. "My point is that most kids like him would jump at the opportunity to jump on the next train and leave school behind."

"Well, he's clearly not most kids." Bruce looked up from his tablet. "He defeated all of us head-on like we were nothing. I mean, just look at how easily he knocked out the Other Guy!" He swiped the video on his screen to the screen in the main living area.

The video looked to have been taken from a camera across the street. Hulk was the last man standing, the rest of the Avengers being a passed-out mess on the ground surrounding them. The blonde teen dodged the Hulk's tactics, only giving small offensive moves until he fully attacked after about 40 seconds.

Big Green was down in less than two.

We gaped at the screen.

"In case anyone is wondering, finding this kid is our number one priority," Nat commented. We all nodded. And for the first time, everyone took this particular case seriously.
