[ Chapter 35: Scarce ]

"This is getting out of hand," King Lucius of Zegordia uttered with disbelief, his voice tinged with concern. He struggled to maintain his composure, aware of the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. "The livelihoods of our people near the sea are at stake. If this continues, it will undoubtedly have a significant impact on our economy."
General Dion, the commanding officer of the Assemblage, observed the tense atmosphere in the room and decided to offer a potential solution. He turned to address the gathered individuals, which included the Duke of Silverstein, Vyrre, the King and Queen, the Commander of the Blue Steel, and the influential Zegordian Gentry, Zaryn Callaghan.
"Is there a way we can initiate a dialogue with the King of the Sea?" General Dion inquired, his voice carrying a note of urgency. He understood the importance of open communication in resolving conflicts and finding a mutually beneficial resolution.
Duke Vyrre, known for his astute observations and vast knowledge, leaned forward with a serious expression on his face. Resting his elbow on the table, he spoke with a tone laced with concern. "This new King is a selfish merman. He killed his own brother, the former King, and now controls the Adelaide waters. It's evident that he has motives beyond the scarcity of fish in the west waters."
"If direct diplomacy is not an option, we need to consider alternative approaches," Zaryn, the influential Zegordian Gentry, interjected, his voice resolute. His presence in the meeting held significant weight, the Gentry's influence could sway opinions and shape outcomes with a single gesture.
Queen Seisha, who was well-versed in the challenges faced by her people, added her voice to the discussion. "The situation is not limited to Zegordia. Mausa is facing similar problems. Even the smallest fish have disappeared from our lagoons and rivers. If we cannot directly communicate with the King, there is one who might be able to help."
Valan, the Commander of the Blue Steel, finally spoke up after moments of contemplation. His voice carried a mix of frustration and concern. "She's not ready," he said firmly, referring to someone whose involvement could potentially tip the scales in their favor.
King Lucius glanced at Valan, his expression a mix of disappointment and expectation. "Your role is vital in this matter," the King stated firmly.
Valan met his guardian's gaze, his frustration boiling over. "Does it really matter? Is resorting to such extremes, manipulating her to unlock her full potential and return to the sea, the only option we have?" His words were laced with anger and a sense of moral conflict, causing a heavy silence to descend upon the meeting room.
Zaryn broke the silence, his voice steady and determined. "We have Sigrid," he proposed, mentioning a key individual with ties to King Baltras. "He works closely with the King, and we can convey a message through him. We need to understand the King's intentions and pursue a diplomatic approach."
Duke Vyrre nodded in agreement, his expression grave. "We all know what the King desires-the Mermaid. His only niece, the rightful heir to the throne of Adelaide. We all know that he is a Forger, also his brother who got a blessing from the father of the Queen, making him rule Adelaide. It has always been said that only a true Adelaide can protect the sea."
The gravity of their situation hung heavy in the room as the gathered individuals contemplated the challenging path ahead. They understood the stakes and the importance of unity and strategic decision-making in navigating the delicate web of politics and power.
Queen Seisha fixed her gaze upon Valan, her eyes filled with a mixture of determination and urgency. "Valan, we cannot afford to wait any longer. We need her ready," she emphasized, her voice carrying a sense of urgency. She understood the significance of their ultimate goal and the pivotal role the Mermaid played in their plans.
