8. Sorrow

Midnight. Yohan finally returned home, he had an event with some people from his class to celebrate the end of the semester. He wasn't motivated to go but he let himself be convinced, after all, it was a good semester and everyone got along well. He leaves first not wanting to go home too late and taking the bus, he does not want to miss the last bus, having no intention of paying for a taxi.

About 30 minutes later, he finally arrived in his neighbourhood. He was happy to be home soon. He is not used to going out and socializing took all his energy. He waits patiently for the pedestrian light to turn green to cross to reach his street. Looking across the crosswalk, he was surprised to see Yoo Jung, he wasn't sure it was her, but he recognized her bag. He called out her name for her to notice and waved at her, glad to see his friend. Yoo Jung returned the sign, she was amazed to see Yohan on the streets so late, she knew he didn't like to stay outside at this time.

They advance at the same time when the light turns green. Seeing Yoo Jung advancing, Yohan made a sign to him to wait for him so that he could talk a bit but seeing that she continued on her way, he gave up the idea and continued to go towards her.

A pool of blood.

It's the only thing Yohan sees right now.

It takes a few seconds before he realizes what just happened. After coming to his senses, he ran to Yoo Jung who was lying on the ground, covered in blood. It was hard to see his face, the shock had been so violent. Yohan knelt down close to Yoo Jung and tried to wake her up, he took her pulse and felt a very slight beat. He begged her not to close her eyes and to stay awake. He put his hands around her neck to try to stabilize her a bit. He turned to the driver and yelled at him to call someone, but seeing the scene, he hurried back to his truck and drove off.

« 911, what's your emergency?"

– My... My friend just... got hit by a truck. We are at the intersection of North Boulevard and... and Sunshine Street. Please come quickly, she lost a lot of blood... I... I don't know what to do...

– An ambulance is on the way, now listen to me...»

He stayed on the phone and followed the instructions of the person in charge so that the dispatch could give as much information as possible about Yoo Jung's condition to the medics who will be present on the scene. They arrive a few minutes later and immediately pick up Yoo Jung, they examine her and stabilize her before getting her into the ambulance. Yohan goes up with them wanting to come to the hospital.

Opening the ambulance's doors, the doctors on duty discover Yohan crying over Yoo Jung, begging her to return. The medics nodded, indicating that she was gone. The shock she suffered was far too great, she could not hold out until she arrived at the hospital.

At 1h10 in the morning, death was declared.

Yohan lets them take her to the hospital and they ask her if she has any family to call. He decides to call her father, not wanting him to find out from the hospital; he was there and sees it as his responsibility. Sung Ho, Yoo Jung's father, took some time to answer, not understanding why he was called in the middle of the night. He arrives 20 minutes later at the hospital, stressed and worried, he doesn't want to believe Yohan's words. He joins him, and seeing his clothes soaked in blood, he falls on his knees, in tears. She was really gone. Yohan comes to see him and helps him to go up to see Yoo Jung, arriving in the room, she was still with her clothes, stained with blood, we could see that she had several broken bones, her face was deformed and tinted red. Sung Ho cried all the tears in his body while squeezing his daughter's still warm hand. Yohan decides to leave him alone, he knows that losing someone from his family is difficult. His wife should arrive in a few hours, as she was out of town for work. Yohan took the time to give his statement to the police before leaving, he hopes that the details he gave can help find the one who did this.
