Happy Father’s Day
Is it horrible that I wish it was you
I wish you were gone everyday
Instead of her
Can’t miss what you ain’t ever had
Wonder what I’d say at your funeral
Here lies a man I barely knew
Who played with my heart from the very start
Made every man I ever seen not good enough
So much so I won’t even date one
Here lies a man that showed me pain
Who told me I wasn’t good enough
Showed me I wasn’t worth your time
I’d always wish just one time you’d come through
Remember when I sat on the stairs of our apartment and you showed up late and drunk
Remember when you told me you was gonna die of....
Something you ain’t even know
Remember that time you came to my house requesting stuff
Remember when you cared
I can’t
You pretended so damn well
You always had me fooled
Now you’re laying here dead
I wish I could say one good thing
I wish I could say at least he tried
You ain’t even try and mess up
You left
Walked out the door and never looked back
See I was princess when things were good
When you thought you could get over
I’m older. Wiser now
I refuse to allow a man to love me the way you did
To treat me the way you treated my mother
Here lies a man that only cared for himself
Who’d rather see his daughter struggle
Here lies a man the never grew to be one
Here stands another fatherless daughter
Who refused to be silent any longer
Who refuses to cry another tear
You showed me even family ain’t loyal
So Happy Father’s Day to another man who played everything but a father
Who did everything but be the opposite of they father
Here lies another generation of hurt
Another day of failed expectations
Here stands a woman who made it
When everyone tried to block her blessings
Even the man who gave her his bloodline
Here lies another poem about
Another man who wasn’t taught to be one
