"The truth is rarely pure and never simple." - Oscar WildeCalmly he was standing near the street full of skyscrapers. The black haired has known where he lives for a while, sometimes even he could catch a glimpse of the younger one standing at the side of his window on the 5th floor. He figured it must have been the boys bedroom. He undressed there quite often when the sun went down and most of the time did not draw the curtains. He most likely did not assume there was someone constantly watching him. That someone knew his daily routine. Come home in the afternoon, eat, shower then change and finally, turn off the lights to sleep. Chrollo did and with astonishing fascination, he watched all of it unfold over and over. It was impressive how strictly the blonde-haired man sticked to this particular routine. The only bit that remained unknown to Chrollo was what he did as soon as the lights went out.
The burning curiosity almost made him enter the building one time, though he was able to keep himself from doing so. While the older man was able to hide his presence perfectly from a certain distance, he didn’t want a highly skilled Net user like the blonde to notice him as he got closer. There was a high risk, even for a skilled S-tier thief like Chrollo was.
However, this night was different. His target didn’t come home at 5pm but 5:30 pm, therefore he didn’t eat at 6pm but 7:30pm and then, just when Chrollo expected him to leave for the shower, he didn’t. He remained in his bedroom, sat on the bed, and did nothing. Grey eyes stared straight at the wall that must have been in front of him. But Chrollo wasn’t exposed, he was sure of it. He would have noticed a change in his target's Nen as he usually did.
This was now unpredictable. Chrollo decided today would be the day of approach.
The long, slander fingers grabbed for the phone inside of the pocket at the side of his coat. It looked plain, kind of old and there was nothing special about it. Not even a trace of Nen could be sensed and Chrollo knew the moment he stole it, that the lady wasn't too careful with her belongings because she did have Nen and she could have placed it on her phone. But she made it easy for him. Just a second, a moment in which he accidentally pumped into the smaller figure some days ago. The streets were full, running into someone else wasn't something shocking or new.
Big eyes looked back at him as he murmured a gentle apology. She frowned for a split second, looked at him as if she knew. For a moment Chrollo thought he had been exposed. But the woman's facials softened and she returned a polite smile. Chrollo knew she could hear his heartbeat. Calm and unmoving. Nothing too special, right?
He didn't know how far her abilities could go. If she would recognize a person just by the beat of their heart. If he remembered correctly, her name was Melody and she was a close friend of the chain user. Back in Yorknew City, she was able to keep the blonde from killing him right on the spot as they sat in the car. Surely, someone so close to the younger one would have his number saved.
So Chrollo had to go through all the contacts. Names which all seemed unfamiliar. Unfortunately she didn't save numbers by also adding their last names so Chrollo wouldn't be able to find the chain users number simply by looking for "Kurta" as last name. Calling them would be no option, this phone was stolen after all, it would only bring him unwanted attention.
He had to rely on his gut feeling.
He would approach his target by calling him, calling the name he thought was his. He didn't like doing things without actual factual backup but the risk had to be taken. Chrollo took a deep breath before pressing "call". Then, he did.
