Rejection was a word the tall tanned skin male whose hair was black as a raven did not fear about. His smile says it all when he means the words, "I don't mind rejection. All I wanted was to be open about it. To finally express to her how much I cherished her." And that act in itself was very admirable of him.

Very admirable indeed was how he was perceived, yet deceiving to an extent is what (y/n) thought on her own. It has been a few days since the puppy in love was rejected in the nicest way possible, at least that's what everyone heard. But no matter how much Don tried to mask it, (y/n) knew. She knew very well what it felt like to be hiding pain, and that's exactly what reflects in the ruddy eyed boy.

It was an independent learning hour for the both of them on an ordinary school day when (y/n) decided to converse with the boy as they did their project together. He was rambling about how busy he has been and was surprisingly enjoying it. A lame excuse to avoid talking about his recent rejection. (Y/n) sighed deeply, earning the attention of the boy in front of her.

"What's wrong?" He raised a brow and she grinned slightly in amusement. "Exactly, what's wrong, Don?" She asked solicitously and he gave a baffled chuckle, "What do you mean what's wrong? Nothing is-" he was interrupted as (y/n) began to shush him with her index finger.

"Stop masking it in front of me Don." She spoke with delicacy, a hint that she too knew what it felt like to put up a facade. "I know what it's like to put up a face that doesn't necessarily reflect what you feel inside." She continued and brushed some of his bangs in a manner where it looked neater, a sight that made him gulp; for he was holding his tears back.

"You can trust me. Let me help you-" it was her turn to be cut off as Don faked a laugh. "Haha! I don't know what you're talking about (y/n), I'm not wearing a mask or anything I'm completely-" she didn't let him finish. "Fine?" She raised a brow.

"Completely okay? Accepted the whole truth?" She leaned closer, "Don, I know that you do accept it and is currently not holding a grudge or anything alike. But let's face it, the truth still hurts. You're still hurt. And unless you express it, it won't help you move on." She pointed out and Don could see the truth of her words.

Moments of intense silence passed. (Y/n) made sure not to look away or add more words. She was brief and she was waiting, no, she was expecting him to give in. Sure, forcing someone to open up isn't something she normally does, but to him, she wouldn't mind expressing just how much she cares even if it can be suffocating. Because for her, to an extent, it only seems suffocating at first, later you're as free as a bird flying in the sky.

Finally her waiting comes to an end as he indulges himself to be vulnerable in front of her. And not a second later after he does so, (y/n) went to his side and rubbed his back. "I'm here for you, always..." she says in a reassuring manner and for some reason, her touch, her word, her presence, made him want to lavish all his aching emotions.

He cried. He blabbered all about it, and every single detail was mentally taken note of by (y/n). He was rambling on about it nonstop, and she never left him or showed irritation with his story.

She was that caring...

She was always so kind...

She was always listening...

And she never left my side...

"So that's why you're claiming to be lucky even after Gilda rejected you?" Ray raised a brow as he listened to Don's story. "Yes, it may have been unrequited but damn it made me realize how lucky I am, especially for having (y/n)..." Don replied as he talked about how the female has helped him move on for the past 2 years.

Ray snickered as he heard this, "careful, you might fall in love again, but this time with (y/n)..." Don slightly blushes at the thought of it, making Ray laugh. "Jeez you do wear your heart on a sleeve, noh?" Ray chuckles more, "Honestly, it's okay. However, I hope you realize the difference of what it is to be in love and to be grateful, don't interchange the two, kay?" Ray advised before heading onto his class.

Don bites his lower lip as he contemplates on the fact of whether or not he was merely glad to have (y/n) as a friend or if he loved her as more. These thoughts were then interrupted by the lass herself as she saw him deep in thought.

"What are you deeply thinking about?" She asked as she tapped his shoulder. "Oh.. (y/n)..." he blushes softly. "Is something troubling you? You're blushing..." she teases a bit but there was a tone of concern as he smiles. Ahh, that damn smile and her lovely eyes...

"Just some thoughts Ray left me to ponder on." Don answered honestly to an extent and she raised a brow. "Tell me (y/n), how would you differentiate being grateful for having someone and being in love with that person?" the boy added and her eyes widened in slight surprise.

"Hm... well that's a bit easy for me actually. I'm thankful for a lot of people but I know when I am in love with someone, I want to be more for that someone. To be the person he loves, leans on, smiles and laughs with always, and to be by his side forever." She answers truthfully and the bell rings.

"Hope that helps, got to go, I've got school clubs to attend to. Let's chat more about that later, huh? Take care!" (y/n) adds as she walks away. And there it was clear to Don, he loved her.

He wants to be more with her. To be the person she loves. The person she leans on whenever she needs one. To be the reason to make her smile, make her laugh. To stay by her side forever.

Ahh yes, his first love was unrequited, but he feels so damn lucky right now. "Just you wait (y/n), because whether you feel the same or not, I choose to live to love you."
