Standing up for Myself

Your POV

Me and Lo'ak spent the whole day together yesterday, behind our parents back might I add. We went swimming, climbing, crystal Hunting and a whole load of stuff. It's just annoying that we have to sneak around. I mean it's not like Lo'ak was the one who attacked me. Its so annoying.

Today I was sitting at the edge of the cliff at the opening of our Cave when I heard a voice behind me.

"Hey (y/n)," Neteyam said as he stood beside me.

"Oh hi Neteyam."

"Can I sit down?"

"Of course."

He sat down beside me on the cliff and we talked a while about the amazing view. It was nice but I was kinda confused as to why he came over to talk to me. Not that I didn't want to talk to him just that we don't exactly talk a whole lot so it was a little akward at first but it got better the more we talked.

"So I kinda wanted to talk to you about something," and there it was, there was something he wanted to say.

"Go ahead."

"Well... see I think your sister likes me," he said and I laugh.

"You think? Dude she definitely likes you." We both laugh.

"Well I thought I liked her too, I mean she's super pretty, smart, talented, really kind to everyone in the village except... you."

I was surprised he said that. No one really notices that my "lovely" sister is always mean to me, or else there too ignorant to say anything. I didn't really say anything back.

"Why is she so mean to you?"

"Well.. I guess because I'm different. I was born an outcast to the rest of the clan. To the rest of the world."

"I just, ugh, I can't even with that. Why the hell would she be mean to her own sister just because she looks different. I can't be with her, I won't."

"Please, I don't want you to not be in a relationship just because of me-" I'm cut off by him.

"No (y/n), you don't deserve that. My brother is often seen as the outcast of our clan and I would never be mean to him about it, in fact, I always try encourage him."

He then puts his hand on my shoulder in a reassuring way,"(y/n), don't let her walk all over you ok? One of these days your gonna have to stand up for yourself. You are a beautiful, smart girl, don't let her make you think otherwise."

He spoke to me so reassuring that I couldn't help but feel so greatful and before I knew it, I was hugging him. He hugged me back and we stayed like that for a few seconds before I pulled away.

"Sorry... I just really needed to hear that."

"Don't apologise, I'm glad I could help."

We both exchange happy smiles.

"So.. how are you doing with the whole "forbidden to see Lo'ak thing"?"

"It's annoying, but it could be worse."

"How so?"

"Well, let's just say this is a very big Cave. Lots of secret places where anyone could accidentally run into eachother."

"Oh I see.."

I could see the conflict in his eyes. I knew he didn't like to disobey direct orders but I can also see he is happy for Lo'ak and I.

"Well I better get going, see you around (y/n)," he said walking away.
