Song for this chapter: Goodbye - Bo Burnham
Today was the coronation. I was alone for the only time I would get today as I stared into the mirror looking at my scar, I received this scar the day my sister and father died.
Though I never told anyone exactly how I got it. It made my vision blurry and made it appear milky white. it was intimidating to anyone who saw it.
I thought it was ugly which shocked me, I never disliked the way I looked, until I was slashed across the face with my sister's own fingernails. Or something that looked like my sister.
I tried not to dwell on that day, it haunted me every night so it did not need to do so during the day. I would not allow it to haunt me during the day.
I was about to become the Princess Royal, I would be royal for maybe a year, and then I would simply be a princess for the rest of my life. I would be the royal until Cregan's child was born, if my throne will be taken at least make it a woman.
a knock woke me from my daydreams.
"enter" I called, it was Thea coming in with my dress.
I may not be the type to get worked up over royal events but even I couldn't deny the beauty of this dress, the bodice had silver armor built around the fabric, and there were patterns of our house sigil and leaves of the Weirwood tree, lining the sleeves that began right off my shoulder while the metal working went up and around to wrap around my neck.
it was perfect. it showed I am to be a warrior.
"It's beautiful Thea" I smiled, the dress had in fact not been done by our rehearsals due to some last-minute changes so this was the first time I was ever seeing it, and I loved it.
"thank you, my princess" she giggled "I would like to curl your hair up and pin some behind with this" She held up a dire wolf pin that had jewels wrapping around it "I believe it suits you"
"I believe it does" I complimented, Nymeria walked through her tunnel ready to be groomed seeing as she and Bob would be a part of the service.
"I have also perfected Nymeria's Armor Chain, it has a fitting handle wrapped in leather so you may ride her easier, along with a beautiful snow-like weaving" Thea loved her work, she loved making dresses.
"shall we bathe her and me, then get dressed? I believe the ceremony is in a few hours" I giggled running over to grab her hands, she was the closest thing I had to a friend.
"I believe we shall" Thea agreed and Nymeria Happily followed after us.
"I feel like a doll" I commented, Cregan was wearing his ceremonial armor and our father's cloak passed down to him once he died.
"I think you look like a very pretty doll," he said trying to make me more comfortable, it didn't necessarily work.
we stood up on the walls of Winterfell watching everyone come inside the walls for the service, the Mormont's, the Greyjoys, and even the Martells have traveled far to come and see the crowning of a new king. The north was admired by every great house in Westeros, even the lower houses.
the only ones left were the Targaryens and Velaryons, whose carriages we could see over the horizon.
"so there comes what is most likely my future husband" I murmured while petting Nymeria's head. She was not dressed in her ceremonial chain just yet, she would receive it once the crown was placed on my head. The same applied to Bob.
"only if you wish for the match" he reminded "I will not force you off to someone you do not wish to marry"
"so you want me to find happiness?" I asked, "That's all you require of me?"
