"Oi Regulus." Evan waves a hand in front of my face.I look up. "What?," I ask.
He points upwards. "The owls are here."
My gaze travels upwards. Hundreds of owls fly in through the great doorway. They lower as they spot their targets, or owners for some. My own owl lands in front of me, claws finding a perch on the bowl of porridge. I am one of the targets.
I sigh, reaching forward. I untie the letter from his right leg, giving him a treat in return. He titters before flying away.
I shove the black envelope in my pocket. I know who it's from even without checking. I know that sealing it shut, is the black crest. It'd be preferable to burn it, but alas I do have to go home eventually and I'd rather not face the consequences of it.
"I've just thought of the best prank," Avery whispers, slamming his hand down on the table. His hand hits Bartys drink, spilling it down the front of his shirt and pants.
Pandora snickers as she walks up behind us."Bartys peed his pants and would you look at that? It's time for class and he can't change," she teases.
He shoots a glare at her before getting up from the table. We follow his lead. We have potions today, so at least he'll be able to hide his stain under the table.
"Anyways," Avery starts again. "The marauders are the greatest pranksters this school has seen right? Well not for long. If we prank the masters, then we become the masters!"
I've never seen Avery this excited about anything. I swear he's bouncing with every step.
"Okay we prank them, so what? How do we do it?" Barty grumbles.
"Why Barty, I'm glad you asked. So we sneak into the Gryffindor tower. We have to find a way to make ourselves invisible obviously. Then we break into the marauders room and turn their hair different colors," He explains.
I nod my head. "That's not a bad idea. I know Sirius will lose his shit."
"But how exactly are we going to get into the Gryffindor tower? They do have a password you know." Of course Pandora points out the obvious flaw.
We all go silent for a moment. She's right of course. Pandora's rarely wrong. I suppose that's why she was put into Ravenclaw.
Evan breaks the silence. "Why can't we just hang around the Gryffindor tower? The password only changes 4 times a year. One of them is bound to say it loud enough for us to hear."
"So it's settled then?" I ask. Everyone nods. "Alright then mates. I guess we're pranking the
marauders."We all cheer, causing the students around us to look over. We grin at them, waving. I watch as confusion weaves it's way through the crowd. Ah of course, because Slytherins are never nice.
It's been two weeks. Our plan has worked perfectly. The first year Gryffindors aren't very careful with their password, they practically shouted it to the whole corridor.
I'm sure the others have been waiting up for a while. Pandora and I have prefect duty, but once we came back the coast is clear.
We finish our rounds at the dungeons. I depart for my dorm, leaving Pandora outside the dungeons. She casts a disillusionment charm, disguising herself.
I knock on the door of my dorm. I hear shuffling inside before the door opens. Avery begins to talk, but I shush him before he wakes up anyone else.
We make our way back to Pandora. We all cast disillusionment charms before sneaking off towards the tower. They're never going to know what hit them.
We come across the portrait of the fat lady. She looks down at us accusingly, as if she knows what we're here for. She can barely see us with the charm in place.
"Remembrall," Barty whispers. The portrait swings open, revealing a short tunnel.
We crawl through the dark, til we reach the common room. It's decorated in various shades of red and yellow. The only light comes from the barely burning fire.
We weave through the couches until we reach the staircase that leads to the boys dormitories. We creep up it, freezing every time the floor creaks.
We make it to the rows of doors. Without me, they could've never pulled this off. I'm the only one who knows which door is theirs. After Sirius had come back after his first year, I had listened to all his stories. In one of them, he described the little animal prints they'd carved into the corners of their doors.
I inspect door after door, feeling the four corners. It's isn't until we've almost reached the end of the hall that I find their door. I try the handle. It's locked.
"Alohomora," I mutter. The lock clicks and I push the door open.
I creep through the room, stopping at a random bed. The others follow my lead. Pandora stays by the door, ready to cast the final spell before we leave.
I pull open the curtains surrounding the bed. Burrowed under three blankets, is Sirius. His hair is spread all over his pillow and his mouth is open.
I look to my left and see Evan biting his lip to hold in his laughter. Below him lies James potter, whose snoring is louder than Avery's.
Now, what color should I dye my brothers hair? Ah of course, yellow. Not blonde, but bright yellow. He told me once that he hated yellow.
"Multicorfors," I whisper. His hair shimmers, gradually changing from black to yellow.
I retreat to the doorway, looking around the find all the others there too. We all walk out, waiting in the hall for Pandora to cast her spell. She wouldn't tell us exactly what it is, but it's supposed to make the color last for a day.
When she joins us, we make our way down the stairs again. Before exiting the common room, I drop a glitter bomb on the floor. I get out of there as fast as I can. I don't wanna be there when that thing explodes.
We make our way back to our common rooms with little difficulty. We drop Pandora off at the Ravenclaw entrance, which is a giant bookshelf that challenges you to solve a riddle.
We almost run into Mcgonagall once. But she doesn't see through our spell. We're all laughing as we stumble into our dorm.
"This is gonna be good," Evan cackles. I swear, he's the reason why muggles think witches are all evil.
"I can't wait to see their faces." Avery flops onto his bed.
"They'll never know it's us," Barty states.
"Hey would you say that? You jinxed us," Evan shouts.
That just makes us all laugh harder. We quickly change, dropping into bed and passing out cold.
"It was you," Sirius shouts charging up to me. I sigh. Can't a man eat his breakfast in peace.
"You did this!" He waves a hand at his hair.
My lips turn up at the corners when I glance behind him and see the other three with hair various shades of the rainbow.
"Why would you say that?" I question.
"You're the only one other than them," he points behind him. "Who knows that I hate yellow. And you're the only other one who knows about the door."
I, Regulus black, am grinning like the devil.
"I didn't think you'd remember that," I admit.
Something flashes in his eyes, something like... hurt?
I decide to take a chance. "tu m'as manqué frère."
He hesitates, taking a glance at his friends. "Tu m'as manqué aussi."
I smile. He turns to walk away with his friends. I raise my hand, waving.
He raises a hand in response.
Maybe our relationship is salvageable.
