Later That Day

"I'm here to see inmate Reed." I told the lady through the glass

I hated going through this long ass process just to see my dad for ten minutes. The searches they be doing crazy as hell too, they feel everywhere.

"Watch out." I mugged the man who was patting me down as he smirked

"Just doing my job girl." He chuckled

"Well do it properly and stop touching me crazy." I rolled my eyes

"Give me yo' number and I'll think about it." He said

"Are they hiring delinquents now? I don't know why you out here when you should be chilling in one of them cells back there." I started

"Niggas like you walking free while my daddy rotting in a cell for no good reason." I shook my head

He didn't say anything back, just chuckled like I said something funny.

"She good to go." He told the guard

I walked in and sat down like usual, waiting for them to bring my daddy out. I was anxious to see the state he was in and hoped that somehow the cancer had magically left his system.

"You here for Reed?" A guard came up to me

"Yeah, what happened?" I asked

"Inmate Reed is in the intensive care unit, he plugged up to machines right now and we not gon' be able to get him out here today." He explained

"I can't go see him?" I asked

"Unfortunately that's not how it works, we not usually allowed to let people back there unless the inmate is already deceased." He shrugged

"And y'all can't make an exception this one time? He literally has cancer and his health is deteriorating. I don't want the next time I see my father to be in a fucking casket." I sighed growing impatient

"I understand that bu-" he started

"Oh shit, Emani what you doin' here?" Switch walked over to us

"I'm just here to see someone, but I can't even do that apparently." I looked at the guard who offered an apologetic expression

"Why you here?" I asked him

"My cousin got locked up last month on some drug charges, he gon' be out soon enough." He shrugged
