Thomas panted, running as if his life depended on it. His heart raced as he gripped his musket tightly. Spotting the fort, he ran faster. "Help!" he shouted. "Somebody help! Help!"
The men inside stopped whatever they were doing and turned to the poor lad who was hysterically running to the fort. John frowned, unaware that Thomas left the fort as he was in Diana's tent, thinking about earlier.
"Easy, lad. What is it?" Lon asked, being in charge on the lookout with Ben.
"It's Weston!" Thomas exclaimed, making John stiffen and run over to meet him. "They got her!"
"Who got her?" several men woke from their slumbers, walking towards him.
"The savages!" Thomas explained as John now fully stood in front of him. "Explain," he demanded.
"They captured her! Dragged her off!" Thomas tried as everyone paled at the news.
"Where'd they take her?" Ben asked, his eyes widening at the news.
"They headed north!" Thomas pointed.
"How many were there?" John asked.
Thomas stammered, unsure as he ran before he was able to count but he was able to hear several men where Diana last was. "I don't know. At least a dozen."
"Filthy beasts!" Ben cursed.
Wiggins also woke from the sudden chaos. He lit a candle, rushing over to Ratcliff's quarters but yelped as the man was already awake and slapped a hand on his mouth from screaming.
"It's perfect, Wiggins!" Ratcliff smirked, blowing his candle now in the dark. "I couldn't have planned this better myself. The gold is as good as mine." He peered out of his tent, seeing the men now crowding each other. But Ratcliff's eyes were on John whose face was filled with regret.
It was his chance.
"We've got to save her!" Thomas pleaded. "She'd do the same for any of us."
John immediately agreed. He got her into this mess and wasn't taking care of her. Her adventurous thoughts got her to this and he feels responsible for it. "Thomas is right!"
"We've got to do something!" Ben exclaimed.
"And so we shall!" They all turned to Ratcliff who stepped out of his tent, walking towards them. "I told you those savages couldn't be trusted. Weston tried to befriend them, and look what they've done to her!"
Many chorused their agreements, facing him for a plan.
"But now I say it's time to rescue our courageous medic. At daybreak, we attack!" Ratcliff shouted as the men screamed in agreement. "What can you expect from filthy little heathens? Here's what you get when races are diverse."
Wiggins already started helping Ratcliff put on his dark armor as the men looked up at him.
"Their skin's a hellish red. They're only good when dead! They're vermin as I said and worse!" Ratcliff sang as the man raised their fists. "They're savages! Savages!"
