"June!" Mom called. "What about dinner?"
May poked her head out of the doorframe of the living room to see me standing there in the hallway, dressed in a little crimson sequin top and a pair of skinny jeans.
"I'm going to see a friend!" I shouted back.
May rolled her eyes.
"Of course you are... not!"
She walked up to me and pulled at my top, smirking.
"You weren't able to stop talking about him ever since he came back to Westbrook, and now you're going out dressed like that. I saw your maths copy, June. You're not supposed to write his name down and doodle little hearts around it in there. What if anyone sees? You know how the people at school are like; they're going to hunt the whole of Westbrook for this 'Tyler Adams'"
"May, you don't understand, he's just..."
I remember my heart racing just at the thought of Tyler, and it made me dizzy. It was the first time I was ever in love. And God, did it feel great. I've only seen him a week ago for the first time in years, but he was just so much more... mature? Was that the word?
He was a sensible kid, but there was just something about the way he laughed now, the way he had grown so much taller... and his hair had even grown as well to frame his handsome face.
I grinned, too overcome with excitement, hopping from foot to foot.
"You do know you're just friends, right? He probably doesn't think of you the same way."
I ignored that comment. To be fair, I didn't really care if Tyler didn't return my feelings. Just being with him gave me enough euphoria to live on for a decade.
"Is he coming to get you?"
"He said he would, give him a few min-"
I yelped in surprise and my adrenaline levels skyrocketed when I heard the doorbell ring.
"Who's that?" Mom said, coming into the hallway.
"My friend-"
May opened the door. Tyler was standing on the porch, dressed nicely in a flannel and jeans, tied around his waist with a belt.
"Good evening."
May's face went ghostly pale, her hands shaking.
"Y-You?!" she spluttered out. Tyler looked indifferent to the fact she was there. He glanced at her and raised his eyebrows.
"Oh, hey May."
"That was YOU?! ON THE BRIDGE WHEN-"
Tyler glared at her, and that shut her up. He then focused on me, dithering by her side. His face softened as he took in my figure, as I could feel his eyes scanning up and down.
"June, hi."
"Hi."
From behind his back, he produced a bouquet of crimson roses, placing them in my hands.
"For you."
"Oh, Tyler, you didn't have to!" Mom gushed, rushing forwards to take them from his hands.
"They're for her."
"Oh yes, I know, I know, I'm just going to pop this in a jar of water."
I stepped out the door as Tyler moved to the side, throwing a lazy arm around my shoulders.
"Don't do anything stupid, kids!" Mom said, coming back in to wave us off. Tyler laughed.
