Miang Tao, Li Susu, and Tantai Jiang had finished their dinner. Now it was time to sleep—but there was only one bed in the room. That left them with a problem: how would three people sleep?
Li Susu looked around and sighed.
Li Susu: "There’s only one bed and three of us... Let’s do one thing. Jiang and I will sleep on the floor, and you can sleep on the bed. After all, this is your house."
Miang Tao frowned slightly, folding his arms.
Miang Tao: "Thank you for reminding me this is my house, Miss Susu—but you’re a guest here. How can I let you sleep on the ground?"
Li Susu: "No need for such formalities. You’ve already done a lot by taking care of my daughter. I don’t want to trouble you more. We’re fine sleeping on the floor."
Miang Tao: "There’s no trouble. Jiang is like a daughter to me too. And since it’s my house, I insist you and she takes the bed. That’s final."
Li Susu: "But—"
Miang Tao: (cutting her off firmly) "No 'but'. I said it’s final. You two are sleeping on the bed. Now either sleep—or let me sleep too."
Li Susu didn’t argue anymore. She quietly took Tantai Jiang to the bed and laid down beside her.
On the other side, Miang Tao spread a thick blanket on the floor and lay down as well. But sleep didn’t come easily to either of them.
Tantai Jiang, still weak from the fever, had already dozed off. Li Susu lay beside her, watching her daughter's face, brushing the hair from her forehead.
Li Susu (in her mind): 'Why am I feeling so strangely at peace here? I know he’s not Tantai Jin... He said it himself—he’s Miang Tao. But why won’t my heart accept it? Why does he feel so familiar...?'
On the floor, Miang Tao was also staring at the ceiling, unable to sleep. He kept turning from one side to another, troubled by something he couldn’t name.
It was past midnight.
Tantai Jiang and Miang Tao were both finally asleep—but Li Susu wasn’t. That’s when she heard a strange voice outside the house. It wasn’t loud, but it was clear... and it was calling her name.
She sat up, startled.
Li Susu: "Who’s there…? Who’s calling me?"
Carefully, she got off the bed, wrapped her shawl around herself, and stepped outside into the night. The voice kept calling her name, pulling her deeper into the forest.
Li Susu: "Hello? Who are you? Show yourself!"
A shimmering light flickered through the trees, and a voice echoed again—calm and powerful.
Voice: "Li Susu... It is I—the one who gave you the power of the Twelve Gods. I am the true God. You accepted that power and used it with honor. That is no small thing."
Li Susu (softly): "Yes… I remember. But I don’t want anything in return."
Voice: "That’s why you deserve it. Because you are selfless. Because you gave everything and asked for nothing. And now... I give you something you’ve longed for—something your soul has yearned for."
Li Susu (nervous): "What are you talking about? What is it that I’ve wanted?"
Voice: "Love. The love you thought you had lost. The one you waited for across lifetimes."
Li Susu’s eyes filled with tears.
Li Susu: "What… what do you mean…? Please, tell me clearly…"
Voice: "Miang Tao… he is Tantai Jin. Reborn in this world. He saved your daughter. She is his daughter too, reborn with him. His soul returned not for war… but to complete what was left unfinished. To finish the story of you and him."
Li Susu (in shock): "What…?"
Her breath caught. She gripped her chest, tears falling silently. She wanted to cry out, but something held her back.
Li Susu: "But… but he doesn’t remember me. Why? Why has he forgotten everything?"
Voice: "Because he was reborn. With no memory of his past life. If you want him to remember... you must help him recall. Every moment. Every feeling."
Li Susu: "But how…? How do I even begin?"
There was silence. The voice was gone.
Li Susu stood there, surrounded by the quiet of the forest. Then, slowly, she sat on a rock and covered her face with her hands.
Li Susu (softly): "If this is true… then I’ll do whatever it takes. I’ll remind him… of us. Of who he really is. No matter what it takes, I’ll bring him back."
She wiped her tears and stood up, determination in her eyes.
Li Susu (thinking): 'But to do that… I have to stay here. I have to stay with him. No matter what.'
Just as she turned back toward the house—lost in thought—she suddenly bumped into someone standing right behind her.
She gasped, slipping—but a strong hand grabbed her arm before she could fall.
