Li Susu’s foot slipped—curse the water on the floor!—and in the next second, gravity betrayed her completely.
She crashed straight onto Miang Tao, flailing like a startled cat. Her palms hit his chest, and before she could stop herself—thud!—their lips met.
Their. Lips. Met.
Boom. A silent explosion went off in both their minds.
Miang Tao's eyes flew open like someone had poured cold water on him. Li Susu's pupils dilated in disbelief.
They stared at each other, lips still frozen, breaths mingling.
What the hell just happened?
Neither moved. Neither breathed.
Until finally, like a dam cracking, Li Susu yanked herself back with the speed of lightning—only to tumble forward again and land right back on him.
Great. Perfect. Fabulous.
Her hair fell all over her face like a dramatic curtain hiding her shame. Her cheeks? Redder than dragonfruit. Her heart? Beating like someone had put fireworks in her chest.
Miang Tao, flustered and still blinking like a confused puppy, said softly,
“W-Wait a minute…”
He gently steadied her by her arms and helped her get up. Then stood up himself, all stiff and awkward like a man who had just seen his life flash before his eyes.
She refused to look at him. Nope. Not even a glance. Her eyes were glued to the floor like it held the secrets of the universe.
He, on the other hand, was looking at her like she was the cutest accident of his life.
He opened his mouth to say something—anything—but before he could, Li Susu suddenly turned and bolted like a spooked deer.
Miang Tao blinked again. “Did she just… run?”
He chuckled under his breath.
But then… the smile vanished. Something weighed on his chest. He sat back down on the bed, his brows furrowed. His heart still hadn't slowed.
Meanwhile, Li Susu ran all the way to the riverbank like she was being chased by her own embarrassment.
Hands on her chest, she tried to catch her breath.
And then… her fingers lifted toward her lips—those lips.
A soft smile bloomed on her face.
Just moments ago, she'd been furious with Miang Tao for scolding her. Now? That anger had dissolved like sugar in tea.
She looked up at the sky and whispered in her mind,
“What are you doing to me, Miang Tao…”
Then came a little voice.
“Mumma!”
Li Susu jumped like a criminal caught sneaking sweets. It was Tantai Jiang, standing with a puppy in her arms.
Li Susu stared, dumbfounded.
What in the moonlit chaos—?!
“Oh. My. God. In the drama of that accidental kiss, I forgot about Jiang! I’m the worst mother in the world!” She mentally slapped herself.
Li Susu: “Jiang! Where did you get that dog? Why are you here this late? You should’ve been home, baby! And you must be starving! Oh honeycup, I’m so sorry—I totally forgot about you because of—uh—something!”
Tantai Jiang: “It’s okay, Mumma! I found this doggy near the river. He was hungry, and I didn’t have any friends, so now he is my friend! And yes, Mumma, I’m very hungry!”
