There had been a small argument between Li Susu and Miang Tao. Or perhaps more accurately-Li Susu had taken it to heart more than he had.
He had only been worried about her, but Li Susu-stubborn, foolish Li Susu-thought he was overreacting. Overreacting? How could she even think that? And this wasn't even the first time she'd ignored him like this.
Flashback:
One evening, Li Susu had quietly slipped outside without informing Miang Tao. She'd gone to gather some fruit from a tree, just to enjoy a bit of fresh air, even though her health hadn't fully recovered. After collecting the fruits, she'd wandered toward the river, her hands stretched out like wings, letting the wind dance between her fingers. But the dizziness came back, creeping up behind her like a shadow.
She staggered, trying to retrace her steps-but her knees buckled. Before her body could collapse, arms caught her from behind.
Miang Tao.
He had appeared out of nowhere, just in time. She'd fainted completely, her body limp in his arms. Without saying a word, he had lifted her in a bridal carry and brought her back inside.
Flashback ends.
So, if someone cares that deeply, and their concern is misunderstood or mocked-it's only natural to feel hurt, even angry. Miang Tao hadn't scolded her because he enjoyed it. He just wanted her to fully recover before doing whatever she pleased.
But that girl... that girl never listened.
That's why even he had gotten a little angry. A little, because when you love someone, how long can you really stay mad?
But oh, look at Madam Li Susu now-she was the one sulking, as if he had wronged her.
---
Miang Tao stood quietly near the same river outside the house. He tossed stones into the water, one after another. His face was unreadable-lost in thought, no expression giving him away.
A small presence settled beside him.
Tantai Jiang.
She sat down close, and Rohit-her stuffed rabbit-rested gently in her arms. She didn't say anything, only leaned her head against his shoulder.
Miang Tao glanced at her and said softly, "What happened, Jiang? Do you want to say something?"
Still no answer. She simply pressed her head against him more firmly.
A moment of silence passed between them. Then, Jiang slowly raised her head and looked up at him with wide, innocent eyes.
"Uncle," she asked sweetly, "why are you sitting here? Come inside... And... and I'm hungry." Her small brows furrowed. "I was going to tell Mumma, but I looked everywhere and couldn't find her. Do you know where she is?"
Miang Tao's eyes sharpened at once.
"What do you mean you couldn't find her?" he asked, kneeling down to her level. "Your mumma must be at home, isn't she?"
Jiang shook her head slowly.
Evening light was fading. His heart skipped a beat. Li Susu's condition still wasn't stable-and now Jiang was saying she wasn't home?
He stood up abruptly.
"Come on, baby. I'm going with you."
Jiang smiled as they walked together. On the way back, she suddenly noticed a small dog hiding in a makeshift box. Her eyes lit up. She walked toward it carefully, kneeling near it.
