Blinking, I noticed the sunlight pouring into my room from the open curtains.
'Madz, your awake'.
Rachel entered through the adjoining bathroom, wearing only my Paramore tshirt.
'Is everyone gone?' Stretching, I realised I was still in my black halter neck mini dress from last night.
'Yup. Derrek told everyone to leave after we fell asleep. Plus Em's hired a cleaning crew earlier to clean up the mess.'
'Cool. I'll be out in five minutes.' I promised Rachel.
True to my word I was out of the room in 5 minutes, dressed in black high waisted shorts and a stripy tank that had a cute little bow. Heading for the kitchen I saw Emma my housekeeper or, gouvernante known in french, making a batch of pancakes.
'Smells amazing Em's.' Smiling, she set a plate in front of me.
'So what's on the agenda for today?' I asked Rachel.
'Mmm, i thought you were making the plans... '
'Actually ladies we're heading over to Christopher's'. Derrek walked in, grabbing one of the pancakes that Emma had just set for me.
'How come?' I asked.
'Seems like there's a new guy in town who Chris knows. We're gonna go meet him.'
'Oooh, did Chris give a name?!' Rachel's head perked up.
'What, Adam's not enough?' I said, poking my tongue out. She rolled her eyes at me.
'I didn't bother asking. He's still hungover from last night. Apparantly Chris' mum told the new guy he could crash with him.'
'Guess we'll find out when we get there.' Rachel had finished eating and went to get dressed.
'A new guy at school would totally perk things up.'
'Ya think?!' Derrek had finished most of my pancakes, too impatient to wait for Emma to cook his.
'Reckon he'll fit in?' I asked, knowing that Derrek would've attempted getting background information on the new guy.
'Well if his hanging out with Chris, then his already halfway up the social ladder.'
'Think his hot?' I asked playfully.
Derrek turned his head, narrowing his eyes at me.
'Even if he is, I'm not letting you break his heart until I know more about him'
Ignoring the jest about me breaking guys' hearts, I whined, 'Your always so overprotective! What happened to having fun?!'
'Madz, come on. We've been over this before. You can have fun as much as you want except when I don't know anything about who your having fun with.'
Rachel's entrance gave me the oppurtunity to ignore Derrek's scolding. She was dressed in a purple and white sundress.
'Ready to go?'
'Duuh. Got a new guy to check out.'
Giggling at Rachel's footloose attitude we headed out. Sighing, Derrek hopped off the kitchen chair and followed us, grabbing the car keys.
Fifteen minutes later we had already turned into the street of Chris' apartment. With Derrek and Rachel chatting about last nights scandal of Kelly the school nerd making out with Josh, the biggest player at school after Chris, I easily tuned out.
I thought back to France, at this time of the year it wouldv'e been snowing but in Malibu the sun was blistering down. The difference in seasons was something I still missed.
'Earth to Madz.' Rachel was waving her hand in front of me, concern in her voice.
'Sorry bubz, just thinking about which tshirts I could give Derrek to wear next week.'
She fell for the lie, easily distracted about the idea of giving the guys one of her pink frilly tops. Inside the elevator Derrek jabbed the 11th button, irratated with my closed-off attitude.
Linking my arm with his, it was a silent warning to relax and play cool about meeting a new guy.
The elevator stopped and we walked out. Knocking on the door Rachel was basically jumping in excitement. The door was opened by an unfamiliar face.
'Come in.'
Feeling Derrek's body tense next to mine, I squeezed his arm, again reminding him to act calm.
We stepped in and once the guy stepped into the light, we got a proper look at the guy's appearance.
With piercing electric blue eyes and slighty waved black hair, the guy's face had a rugged handsomness to it. He was slighty taller than Derrek and I, about 6'1. His glance was focused behind me and on turning back, I realised Rachel was still standing in the doorway, frozen.
'Rach?' She snapped out of her trance and leaped foward.
Wrapping her arms around the guy's neck she cried, 'Oh my god! Jordan I thought you were gone forever!! You left and never contacted any of us!'
The guy, or well Jordan, wrapped his arms around her smiling, 'I've missed you too. I'm glad I came back.'
This time I gave Derrek a questioning glance. He shrugged, an indication that I was not the only one who was ignorant.
'So umm, who are you?' Derrek's bluntness was enough to make Rachel stop fan girling as she realised we had no idea who Jordan was.
'Madz, Derr this is Jordan. He use to go to St Waverly's with us round two years ago. Adam and him were best friends. He's also Chris' half brother.'
