| Where there was a welcome |

-

The door to the dining hall was as old as the castle itself, ancient one might say. The history the simple piece of wood held always fascinated me, but now it's age stabbed me in the back.

A loud creaking sound echoed through the dining hall, followed by the screeching of the door opening. One by one heads turned to its call, the usual loud chatter fallen silent as all eyes focused on us, or more importantly our linked hands.

Silent. It was skin crawling, eerily silent in the hall, something it couldn't even achieve when it was completely soulless. Seconds passed but it felt like eternity as dozens of eyes were pointed at me until a saviour broke through the silence, stealing the eyes away from us.

"Darling!", Barty bellows into the room as he jumps on the table, his arms wide open and a large grin played on his lips. "Welcome home!"

My eyes widen a fraction more as I watch my friend stand on top off the table, the eyes grand me their attention again but now holding more curiosity. "I hate your brother. I truly hate him.", I mumble to Cassie as she dragged me over to their table, our feet desperately pushing us faster without making it seem like we are running.

"Was this apart of their plan? ", I whisper the question through gritted teeth, my eyes finding others which fuelled my desire to run.

"No. Not that I know of. Merlin, my brother is dead.", Cassie whispers back, her eyes glaring fiercely at anyone who she crossed paths with.

"Welcome home!", Barty bellows yet again once we got closer. At his words the rest of our friends stand up as well and start to clap, quite energetically, in the corner of my eye I saw Lucius wave his wand and a banner fell down, followed by a bunch of confetti.

'Welcome Home!' It displayed in bright colours and I watch mortified as the sky turned a mix of green of red.

A uncomfortable silence followed, I stood still, frozen, not daring to move a muscle as their eyes burned on my back. I could practically feel their questions, their curiosity.

A slow clap broke the silence and pulled the halls attention. "Well done, well done, Mister Crouch.", Dumbledore voice echoes in the room. "A wonderful welcome that is was, bravo. It is truly heartwarming to see friends reunite."

"Wonderful? Heartwarming? ", Cassie repeats the words in question before scoffing. "More like dreadful.", she murmurs in disdain, picking the many confetti out of her hair. A quiet giggle escaped me as I saw her hair covered in confetti.

"What? You find this funny? ", she questions. I had to bite my lip to stop my smile from showing but she noticed anyhow. A glint appeared in her eyes and before I could discover the reason a handful of confetti was thrown in my face.

"-It was a lovely welcome to miss Evergreen."

Cassie and I both swivel around, confetti flying off us, as we payed attention again, eyes widen as we catch the gaze of our principal.

With a warm smile Dumbledore continued. "So, to use the words of our Slytherin classmates, welcome home miss Evergreen".
