SHE EXHALED, her eyes resting closed as she pressed her body weight against the newly established balcony, the whirling winds rushing through her locks with luke-warm temperature, her gaze locked on the streets from up high.

She scanned the passersby, their figures dimly lit by street lights, her mind racing with reverberating thoughts. With her arms crossed and her chest pressing against the ledge from her leaned over physique, she inhaled once more, calming her racing mind down.

[Name] began setting up her dorm room multiple days or even weeks ago. Since then, she has passed the license exam and was more miserable than she ever has been. Being pent up with this case, on multiple occasions, has she skipped meals and dinner.

With the time striking 1 AM, she hadn't fallen asleep in hours. There was but one project she hadn't completed, a fully set billboard hidden against her closet wall, shadowed by the dangling clothes.

"Death," She inaudibly whispered to the sole thing that kept her company, her head up in a high angle as she gawked at the moon's silhouette. He hums, allowing her to continue. "I'm going soon."

It was constantly clouding her dissipating brain. She was leaving soon, and originally, she would hum unbotherdly, though, now, she can't help but want another shot.

All she can do is watch the days pass by, observe herself withering away until the planned date is set, and then, she can go. Maybe even sooner than they predicted.

"I know." His deep voice replied, husky and echoing in her head. "I have to mention the promise before you go."

"The promise..." She whispered. Recently, her brain processing has slowed. "Oh, the promise. What is it about the promise?" She quietly queried, tilting her head as her eyes danced around the moon.

"The promise I made, that I wouldn't push you into another being, I wouldn't give you an After Life, the promise that you will be gone forever." He reminded, his deep voice with a hint of shake. "I can't let it happen anymore. And I'm afraid I can't tell you why, you won't take it well."

"Well, go ahead," she nods. [Name] knew she was too unbothered for her own good.

"I can't."

"I have to go," She murmured through her parted lips, "And I'm content with that. We all serve a purpose, right?"

"I can't." He breathes out, an echoing click of his tongue in her mind. "I can't, [Name]."

"You can. I'm just another experiment. It's all I ever was." [Name] reminded, not feeling the hint of angst for the knowledge she's learned to embrace.

"An experiment that I've grown to care for. Or love. Whatever these stupid fucking humans call it." Death sharply argues back, and for the first time, she felt an expression form on her face as she widened her eyes.
