Chapter 6: (You.)

"I got accepted to a university abroad."

Beomgyu was in the middle of eating his cup of ramen when Yeonjun suddenly dropped a bomb on him. The chopsticks were left untouched on the table as he kept his eyes on Yeonjun who intended to avoid his gaze. They were inside Beomgyu's room, the air conditioner producing awkward noises as they stayed seated in silence.

"What?" Beomgyu raised a brow, surprise evident all over his features—his eyes, his lips, the subtle movement in his hands—Yeonjun could sense them all.

Yeonjun scratched the back of his ear, fingers playing with Beomgyu's bedsheets, "We'll be 18 soon, and well, college is near. I just checked my applications before coming here, and that's that..."

None of them had always been a fan of this needless silence between them. The kind of silence that they didn't know how to break because they couldn't think of anything to say, or do, or feel. In situations like that, they'd keep still, avoid eye contact, and feel the uncomfortable feeling in their throats. Beomgyu clicked his tongue and turned his swivel chair around to completely face Yeonjun.

"Why are you telling me this?" It was one of those times when Yeonjun could distinctly hear the perplexity in Beomgyu's voice.

The window in between them gave way for the evening light to bleed on the wooden floors. It was blue in color, like Beomgyu's bedsheets, like the jacket hanging by the door, like the expression on Beomgyu's face. Everything was blue.

"I mean," Beomgyu covered half of his face, allowing only his eyes to deliver the emotions he couldn't bear to conceal anymore. "It's not like I have any say with what you want to do in college. And abroad... I don't really understand. You also just found out about this earlier, and you already decided to tell me not long after..." Beomgyu completely hid his entire face behind shaky hands, "I don't know... I don't know what to feel."

The universe did give them so many forewarnings even before this day. Yeonjun's applications, the sudden mention of faraway universities, and college itself—Beomgyu didn't know why he was acting like this. (I just don't know how to react appropriately.)

Even with his eyes obscured, Beomgyu knew Yeonjun got off his bed just by the sounds of rustling and footsteps coming towards him in a hesitant way. Beomgyu sighed, "I'm sorry, please don't get me wrong. I'm happy for you—"
