The Nether king paced around the bridge of the fortress he stood on.  He’d been waiting for one of his most loyal soldiers to come back after he had tasked her with a mission to scout Frostbourne territory.  It had been a few days, three to be exact and that was to be expected after all.  The trip from their home realm to the enemy’s wasn’t short.

The wither angel was also one of, if not the best of his troops so he had no doubt that she would make it back on time as always.  Yet something bothered him, worried him, that maybe she wouldn’t come back this time.  Maybe they had pushed their luck too far this time, venturing into enemy territory time and time again.  Perhaps that was what kept him on edge, well that and his feelings for her.

Those feelings, like the ongoing war, were uncertain.  On one hand he had grown fond of the wither angel, on the other, he knew better than to start any relationships with his subordinates.  That he had known when he first started expanding the Nether Empire, because should he ever lose anyone he holds dear it could very well put an end to his conquest.

He was still clouded in deep thought and anxiety when he heard the familiar flap of her wings, as she descended right behind him.  The Nether King whipped around just as she dropped to her knee.

“My lord, I have arrived with great news.”

Just hearing her voice again caused him to let out a sigh of relief he didn’t know he had been holding.  She glanced up at him and with a smirk on her face asked.  “Did you miss me?”

He ignored her jab at him and instead composed himself.  “What news do you bring?”

The wither angle stood straight up.  “The Frostbourne forces seem to be more preoccupied with our decoy armies.  Our strength in numbers still allows us to fool them into believing that we’re attacking all over.  They’ll have no clue that we’re invading their mainland soon.”

That brought a smile to the Nether King’s lips.  “Good, anything else?”

She nodded and he signaled that she could continue.  “I managed to sneak further behind their walls this time and have been able to map out their defenses accurately.”  As she spoke she pulled out a schematic from her robes that she handed over.

“Well done, I need you back out there to scout another area.  We have reports that they’re starting to deploy new types of golems, I need as much information as possible on them.”  As he spoke, she nodded, listening intently to his orders.  “I do have one issue though, I do remember ordering you not to try breaching their walls any further than you had last time.  I don’t want to risk them figuring out what we’re doing.”  Concern was etched in his gravelly voice no matter how much he tried to suppress it.

Just as she had before, she took notice of it.  “My lord, with all due respect, you don’t have to worry about me.  This isn’t my first time doing this and I know how to defend myself should I need to.”  Her own voice was gentle and reassuring.  “I’ll be fine.”

Naeus tried to come up with a counter but he realized that she was right.  With a long sigh he said.  “Very well then.

She nodded and turned to leave, walking to the edge of the bridge they stood on.  Just as she was about to fly off, he grabbed her by the shoulder.  “Just be careful.”  His voice filled with worry he didn't bother masking anymore.

“I’ll be fine.”  she repeated softly.

With that said, she leaped off before flying away.  The Nether King was left alone once again with his feelings.  Wondering if his angel would return again.
