He sat up on the couch, slits of golden ribbons shining in through the window from the morning light. Kurkoren was already awake. "I'm hungry," he whispered the complaint. Thinking about it now, Lex hadn't felt hungry since his transformation. Though, the Demon and Bai Ze in him were still there, the blood of them rushing through his veins didn't change anything about his hunger. "Oh. Well, do you want to go hunting? I won't eat anything since I'm not hungry, but I'll still come with you if you want." Lex murmured.
"Um, sure if you want." Kurkoren said and scratched the bridge of his nose. The two walked out of the back door of the cabin. "Hunting month starts again soon. Time seems to fly by. I can't believe it's already here."
"Yeah. Just a few days. I wonder what's going to happen... Since Akuma can't really be in control anymore since he's so beaten up."
"I know. He deserves it though. I wonder if the group will disband and just do their own things."
"I'm thinking those same things, too."Lex looked to the floor, dismal eyes staring as he frowned. "Anouke lied to me." Lex mentioned.
"Huh?" Kurkoren gasped.
"He said that... none of us would be taken away or leave the other. But he left me." He felt like his knees would buckle. "Lex..." Kurkoren said.He sounds pitiful. Lex thought to himself. "Nobody can predict things in the future. He just didn't want to ever leave you and wanted to reassure you that he wouldn't do that. Obviously he didn't leave you on purpose. He wouldn't want to." Kurkoren explained to him. Lex already knew that, but he just couldn't accept that he was gone.
"I know, but why did he leave me?" Lex asked and looked up at Kurkoren. His eyes were watery but no tears fell down. He held them back.
"There was no reason why he left you, but it was just because he couldn't hold on any longer. The pain was too much to endure and he died. From what I saw, I'd say it was blood loss.""Yeah." Lex agreed. "Sorry for saying that to you, you didn't need to say anything back. But thanks." Lex said and smiled, though inside he felt broken and weak. They carried on venturing forwards, looking for food for Kurkoren. Lex understood how Anouke felt now when they ate last time. Discomforted by the thought of a living thing being 'eaten' and killed.
After the hunt and Kurkoren being fed with the taste of a fox, though it wasn't very fulfilling, Lex and Kurkoren had trekked back to the cabin to go and rest whilst they awaited the hunting month to come along.
And when it finally did, none of the two expected what was going to actually happen.
Daybreak coated the ground to signal a new month. Dusk shone in through the window. It was dark but bright at the same time. "Mmm." Lex grumbled as he awoke from a normal dream, disheveled hair falling over his dark eyes. "Looks like you're going to be another Demon they're going to be coming after. At least it's not just me, haha." He laughed nervously, joking.
Kurkoren knew that but didn't say anything. "Are they even going to come is the real question." He stated. He was right. Were they actually going to come?
Lex wandered outside. He leant back against the wall of the house, white paint flaking off the walls. He closed his eyes and thought about Anouke. Should I... Go to the area where I first met Anouke? He asked himself, wondering if that was a good idea. He opened the door again and Kurkoren was already looking at him. "Where'd you go?" He asked.
"Just outside for a breather." Lex said quietly."I think... I'm going to go somewhere I've been before – for my own personal reasons." Lex told him. He said it with a debatable tone like he wasn't sure – which he wasn't. "Can I come with you?" Kurkoren asked and got up from the chair as if Lex had already agreed.
"Ah well..." Lex seemed to get pissed off by his gesture but wouldn't let it show. "Sure..." He said skeptically.
