BTW this chapter will be short...
I ended up at the pond. It was cool and shady, the perfect temperature for relaxing. I laid on the feathery soft grass. The wind ruffled its blades across my arm.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, smelling the sweet perfume of the blooming wildflowers.
But there was another smell among them.
Ash.
I sat upright in a flash. My eyes whipped around, searching through the trees.
"Ah, guess you caught us, puppet."
A voice slithered from the shadows.
"W-Who are you!" I exclaimed.
The voice laughed.
"You wouldn't remember me, puppet. But I remember you."
I was standing now.
"Show yourself!" I barked.
"If you insist."
The figure appeared on the tree line.
He wore a midnight black cloak with an armband. On the armband was a symbol. An eye.
"No," I whispered, "It can't be."
"Ahh," the figure said with a flair of its arms, "but it is me, puppet."
He pulled back the hood.
"Gethen," I choked.
"So you do know me!" he exclaimed, "I thought as much."
'H-ho-how?" I managed to stammer. I was flabbergasted. Stunned. Paralyzed in fear.
"Did you really think that the Moonlark," he spat the word out like poison, "could defeat us?"
When he said the word 'us', a group of four members appeared behind him. Two on his left, and two on his right.
Now I was regretting not telling anyone where I was. I wasn't a Telepath, so I had no way to reach anyone.
"Don't worry, puppet," he said, practically reading my mind (he probably was) "We don't want you yet, we'll come back for you and Pheonix. But first, let's leave a mark."
Bit of v**l*nc* here.
He snapped his fingers and a throwing star was chucked into my arm.
My vision went blurry and my scream pierced the once-tranquil forest.
"Bye Bye, puppet," Gethen said before light-leaped and the world crumbled away into splotches of black and red.
OMG THE NEVERSEEN ARE STILL ALIVE?!?!?! Poor Griffin! I just injured my main character for the first time! Shannon would be proud...
