The Council agreed to let me have a bodyguard.

Sophie contacted Queen Hilda and Sandor to get me someone with good experience, and a good amount of patience.

I was assigned to Dormien.

He was a whopping seven feet tall with a deep, gruff voice. He had rough grey skin and a giant sword that hung on his left. He was earnest and took nothing for granted.

In other words, he was no fun.

"You have to be kidding me. He's that strict?" asked Plyor during lunch on my first day back.

"I can hear you," snorted Dormien.

"Glad  don't have a bodyguard then," whispered Plyor, "I'd have to give up pranking!"

"And that would benefit everyone but you," I replied.

"Yeah," agreed Quill, "maybe there wouldn't have been gulon gas instead of water in my shower this morning."

"That was Terin," Plyor answered quickly.

"Hey!" Terin exclaimed, "You helped!"

Quill sighed and went back to eating.

I turned to my closer friends.

"So how's life been going?" I asked.

"They testing us for Frosting in ability detecting today," huffed Mars. They were covered in sweat.

"Yeah," panted Kayla, covered in sweat as well, "stuck us in an oven for an hour and NONE OF US WERE A FROSTER!"

"My Empathy Mentor is intense," said Leo with a shiver, "but I'm learning a lot."

"I can hide things in the void now," said Grey, "so I can access them whenever I want."

"Cool," I replied to them all.

"How's your arm?" asked Kai.

I lifted my sling.

"Better, but still needs this thing."

"And that will never happen again," growled Dormien.

He proceeded to scan the cafeteria.

Ugh. Sometimes having a bodyguard was embarrassing.

After school, I stayed inside despite my protests to Linh.

"Elwin said we couldn't be taking chances," she said.

I groaned internally and went up to my room.

As I sat in bed, my mind wandered.

I began to wonder about my past. How was I an elf? I was born to my human parents, so I'm not an adopted accident. Was I a Black Swan project? No. Sophie would have known about then, wouldn't she? Maybe I was someone else's random experiment.

'Puppet'

My whole body shivered at the sound of Gethen's voice. But maybe my brain had a point. Maybe that's why Gethen called me "Puppet".

Maybe, I was the Neverseen's project.
