Madelyn smiled widely as she sat through the interview. She was having a pretty good time and the interviewer seemed to be nice but one question made her face brighten up even more.

"Speaking of your boyfriend, [name], we heard there's a pretty funny story behind your first date?"

She nodded her head immediately. "Actually it was. We were friends way before he asked me out and we went on our first date..."

Flashback
"Are you excited?" [name] asked as he drove down the road, Madelyn in the passenger seat next to him.

She turned her head to look at him. "Totally. Though this should have happened ages ago."

"Yes, I know. I should have asked you out and stop being a little scaredy cat." He playfully rolled his eyes. "But better late then never right?"

"Right." She looked forward again but after only a few more minutes she felt the car start to slow down but they were nowhere near their destination. "Why are you stopping?"

"Uh..." He looked at her with wide eyes. "I don't want to tell you."

"What?" She raised an eyebrow. "What's going on?"

He managed to pull the car over to the side before it came to a complete stop. "We may or may not be out of gas."

Her mouth propped open and she leaned over, seeing the gauge was down to zero. "You mean we definitely ran out of gas."

"Yep." He smiled.

She groaned and threw her head back. "How did you not notice we needed gas?"

"I don't know..." But he did know. He had been so excited to pick her up that he didn't even think about it.

"What are we gonna do now?" She questioned.

He couldn't let this date be ruined. Not when he finally had a chance with her. "I have an idea." He looked over at her and she raised her eyebrows again.

He leaned forward and turned the radio up, letting a song play out. He then leaned into the back seat and pulled up his back pack. He dug through it, pulling out a few candy bars.

"I'm gonna call a tow but before then," he got out the car and walked to the passanger side, opening the door and holding out his hand, "wanna join me?"

'What the hell', she thought before grabbing his hand and letting him pull her out. He lead her to the back of his car where the truck bed was.

"Lucky for you I also have a blanket." He put it down before helping her into the bed. "My lady."

"Why thank you." She winked at him before helping him up. They laughed as they fell backwards.

"Hungry?" He held out a candy bar for her.

She grabbed it before opening it and taking a bite. "Lovely." She smiled.

They sat next to each other and the date began. The longer they sat the more uncomfortable the bed of the truck became but it didn't matter to either. They were having too much fun to leave. They were having so much fun [name] hadn't even called the tow truck yet.

"Even though this isn't what we had planned... this is pretty cool." Madelyn said, there were now candy wrappers all around them.

[name] laughed, putting his hands behind his head. "I know, I know. I saved the day again."

"Saved the disaster you caused." She slapped him on the chest, making him laugh again.

"Let's not worry about the details."

She hummed, her eyes never leaving his for a second. She licked her lips for a moment, her eyes moving down to his before they flicked back up.

[name] visibly gulped. This was the moment he had been waiting for. He leaned in and so did she. Perfect. This moment was perfect.

Crack!

Madelyn screamed and jumped back. The crack of thunder and lightning had come out of nowhere and now rain was starting to come down.

"Oh, my god." She put her hands over her face to try and stop her makeup from running but it was too late.

"Come on." He helped her back into the truck to get away from the rain.

"Don't look at me." She covered her face. "I probably look so bad right now."

"Stop." He grabbed her hands and pulled them away. "You always look beautiful." The corner of her lips twitched up. "Maybe I should call the tow truck now."

"Not yet." She shook her head and put her hand on his cheek. "Just a few more minutes." She leaned in and finally they kissed.

Present Day
"So as far as first dates go... it was perfect." Madelyn eyes shined with the truth.

The interviewer smiled back, her cheeks heating up in admiration. "That's beautiful."

"I know." Madelyn giggled.
