"I wouldn't say pleasure exactly, Holmes," the inspector stated uncomfortably.
"What happened? If you came all the way out here, it must be a big deal!" Sherlock Holmes said excitedly. "Go on, out with it!"
"Last night, at around ten, Count Enoch J. Drebber was found murdered. A noble's been killed," Lestrade stated gravely.
It couldn't have been Kai, surely. He never displayed any mad qualities, though was always the chance he may have been forced into it. I decided until complete evidence has been found, I wouldn't count my brother in the list of possible suspects.
"A murder?" Dr. Watson asked, causing my train of thought to crash.
"All right! A new case. You know I'll take it!" Mr. Holmes cried triumphantly.
"What do you mean?"
"You two, this is what I do. I solve the cases the Yard's unable to solve. I'm the world's one and only consulting detective!"
"Consulting detective?" Dr. Watson looked like he'd seen a ghost.
"C'mon, Lestrade, what are you standing around for! Could ya lead me to the crime scene already?"
"I'm terribly sorry, but actually, we found a few messages written in blood right next to the corpse of the deceased."
"Let me guess, one of them was the word Rache, German for revenge?"
"Yes, but the other is perhaps the more disturbing of the two. Sherlock."
"What?"
"I truly do not want to do this, but orders are orders.
Sherlock Holmes, you're under arrest for the suspected murder of Count Drebber."
"Hang on, that can't be right! We were with him for quite a while, he's innocent!"
"I'm sorry, but unless you know of any other possible suspects, all the evidence points to Holmes here."
"What sort of evidence?" Dr. Watson chimed in.
"Since the two of you were with him, we're going to need statements from you."
It couldn't have been Kai... could it? A dark shadow, previously unobserved, had surrounded my brother. However, I had to get that out of my mind and focus on the task at hand- not getting Mr. Holmes arrested.
"I'm suspected of murdering a count?" Holmes asked. "This is simply wonderful! So, you're saying my name was found written in blood at the crime scene?! Great! Excellent! Interesting! In all seriousness though, you're just trying to pin me as a murderer, aren't you?"
"Ha! We'll see how long you can keep up that act before you break!" cried an unpleasant voice.
"Gregson. So, you're here too?"
"Get him out of my sight. We're going to have a chat with these two."
