Two years. This was the longest relationship she had ever had. It felt strange to be completely invested and entirely devoted to someone else. There hadn't been a single moment she saw another man or woman and wished she was single. It was weird, but it was a sweet and warm kind of weird. After all, this was something she had always wanted, but never actually thought possible. She smiled, turning on some music and preparing to make dinner, glad she was proved wrong.

Aizawa would be home in two hours and parts of the meal would take just about that long to cook.

She hated cooking and he knew it, but this was a special occasion she wanted to impress him. It was also the first night in a long time they had to themselves. Eri was with Izuku and Miriou for the night.

Her phone vibrated on the counter as she poured a glass of wine. The screen lit up with the caller ID: Bruh, along with the picture her brother had set for himself. It was a blurry middle finger and a glimpse of fierce eyeliner behind that finger, red haze out of focus in the background.

She rolled her eyes and smiled before answering the phone, placing it between her ear and shoulder, "Ruka's Pizza and Funeral Parlor. Yesterday's loss, today's sauce!"

"Morbid as always," Hawks laughed and quickly grew serious. "Look, you busy?"

"A bit," she lit the burner on the stove, a sound that he picked up on, "Why, what's up?"

"Nah, you're busy, call me later," he tried to sound laid back but his back was literally against a wall as villain, Dabi, glared into his soul.

Perhaps if she wasn't so wrapped up in her anniversary, Ruka would have picked up on the subtle change in his tone, "Tomorrow morning, okay?"

"Yeah, sure," he said, "Goodnight sis."

"Night! Be safe, okay?" The call ended. She turned her music up louder as memories of their childhood flooded in. She felt guilty for allowing the call to end and not being there for him in this moment.

Just as she cleared her mind, shoving painful memories back down, the door opened. She jumped to see Aizawa walk in – two hours early. She dropped the spoon and turned to greet him, "You're home early!"

He didn't respond. He dropped his work bag at the door and turned down the hallway where their bedroom was at.

"Sho?" she asked, even though it was supposed to be surprise, she was excited to tell him what she was making for their dinner.

She followed him into their room, seeing him lying on his side in the bed.

"Hey Sho, are you feeling okay?" she sat next to him.

He hadn't bothered to turn on the lights, something he did when his eyes were especially dry and aching.

"Hey baby, what's wrong?" she asked again, this time kneeling next to the bed close to his chest. His eyes weren't only bloodshot, they were red and puffy. Her first thought was that the school was attacked, lives were lost. But no, he wouldn't have come home at all.

"I..." he stuttered and started to cry.

It was a face she had yet to see two years into their relationship. Any time he had been worried for a student or angry at the school, he usually paced or slept. Aizawa was many things and a stoic was one of them. Ruka moved swiftly to take Aizawa into her arms. He tensed up and his tears fell faster as she spread her wings and wrapped him up in a shield of feathers.

She held him for a while until smoke wafted into the bedroom.

"Shit, shit, shit," she pushed a sleeping Aizawa off her lap and ran to the kitchen. Her wings flexed and forced her forward, around the corner with ease. The sauce she had been making was now engulfed in flame. With her wings, she threw a gust of wind at the fire, blowing it out promptly and leaving the counter in a burnt mess.
