Hey guys! My birthday is tomorrow so I probably won't be updating for a little while, but since its summer you can expect more frequent updates. love y'all!

Daytime bled into night, and darkness overtook Storybrooke. Emma and I, despite our best efforts, could not locate Moe French, and I heard Emma whisper lightly to herself that she wished Graham was here to help.

I had had a strange day. After a few hours hunting down Gold's missing property, I had become very suspicious of his intentions. Something told me that Gold was up to something, and that Moe French was more than a "client." After our exchange with Gold in the office, Emma and I went to the diner with a stack of papers-information about Gold's many properties in and around Storybrooke-and started digging through his holdings in search of connections to French. I was deep into an incredibly boring spreadsheet about his tax records when I looked up and saw Henry smiling at me. "What're you doing?" he asked Emma. "Work," Emma replied, sipping her coffee, "why aren't you at home?" "My mom's busy again," Henry said, sliding in next to me, "and we never get to see one another anymore." Emma looked at him. Henry was right-Regine had been trying to keep Emma and Henry apart. Which made it even more frustrating that, right now, Emma had no time to give to him. "Do you want to hear about Rumpelstiltskin?" Henry asked. "I'm not really in the mood," Emma replied. "Where's your book?" I asked Henry. "I'm just remembering this one," he said quickly. "I don't really have-" Emma started, but Henry cut her off with the beginning of his story. "But it's crazy," he said, his eyed going wide, "there was this kingdom that needed his help, and so Rumpelstiltskin went, and they said that they needed him to end the Ogre War because it was so dangerous, and in return he asked for the hand of a beautiful young." Emma raised her hand, signaling for him to stop. Apparently, she had found something worth stopping him on the paper she was scanning."Gold owns a house out in the country. A cabin, did you know that?" She asked no one in particular. "Henry, I'd love to hear your story, but Ashton and I have to go check on something." "Oh, okay," Henry said, a little disappointed. I could not blame him. He only got to see Emma when he could sneak out, and now Emma had to go. But if Emma was in a rush to leave Henry, I knew it had to be important, so I followed her out. "What's wrong?" I asked Emma when we were in the police car. "If Moe French is missing, and Gold is nowhere to be seen, than I think a not very well known cabin out in the woods is a good place to hide." We drove to the edge of town, than down an old dirt road, following the dusty map that had come along with the old police cruiser. We came around a bend and saw the truck. "That's Moe French's truck," I said, "sounds like your hunch was right. Let's go." We entered the cabin with our guns drawn, and when we did, we came across a horrid scene. Gold, manic, beating French, who was bloody and unconscious. Emma stopped Gold and restrained him, while I called an ambulance. Gold gave up the second he saw Emma's face. The EMTs rushed French to the hospital, unsure about his chances. Emma and I put Gold in the back of the car, and drove back to the station.

After buying two sandwiches for Emma and I from Granny's, I walked into the station. "I know what you're thinking," Emma was saying to Gold, who was inside a cell, "I owe you a favor, and you're in my jail right now. And you don't want to be in my jail, do you?" I handed Emma a sandwich, and she sat back and started eating. Gold was in the cell, sitting quietly, listening to her make light of the situation. "When I need the favor, I will take the favor," Gold replied finally. Emma watched him carefully. She opened her mouth to respond, but the front door opened and all three of us looked up. The mayor and Henry walked in. "I was wondering if you two might like to spend an hour with Henry," Regina said simply. "Let me guess. So you can talk to him alone," I said. Regina shrugged. "Maybe," she said, "do you want to go with Henry or not?" "Yeah, you okay with this?" I turned to Gold. "Of course," he replied. "Just this once, then," I said to Regina, and Emma, Henry, and I left.

For a few minutes, none of us spoke, and I tried to imagine what was being said between the two very strange people in the jail. They were enemies, clearly, but I knew there was more to their relationship than simple animosity. It went back. There were secrets. "What is it," Emma said finally, "about those two?" "What do you mean?" Henry asked. Emma shook her head. "I don't know, Henry, it was a strange day." "What did Mr. Gold do to get in there?" Henry asked. "He attacked someone," I said, "we caught him hurting a man." "What man?" This time, Emma replied, "Moe French." Henry nodded sagely but said nothing. "What?" Emma asked. "You won't believe me if I tell you," he said, "so why should I tell you?" "Entertain me." "Well," Henry began, "do you know how I told you that Rumpelstiltskin turned kind of evil when he got his power?" "Yes." "A little while later, after he was all alone and his son, Bae, was gone, he met a girl and fell in love with her, and he almost turned good again." I had ever known Rumpelstiltskin's story, all I knew was that he killed my dad's love, cut off his hand, and than gave me a magic bean. Not exactly a loving man. "Almost?" I asked. "Yeah," Henry said, "he had the choice. Right after she kissed him. And he chose to stay powerful instead of being in love and being normal. Which is exactly what happened when he lost Bae, too." "His son died?" I asked. "No, he just disappeared." We walked in silence for a few more minutes. We were at the school now, and the night was cool and still. The leaves were gone from the trees, and the wind rattled the branches. There was not this kind of quiet in Manhattan. "Belle," said Henry. "What?" Emma asked. "That was the girl he fell in love with," Henry said, "but after he rejected her, she went back home, and her father thought she was no longer fit to marry, so he locked her up." "What happened to her?" I asked. "She killed herself, that's what the Queen said anyways." I thought again of the sight of Gold beating Moe French. What had Emma and I heard Gold shouting? You sent her away! Emma and I shared a look. "Let me guess," Emma said, putting a hand on Henry's shoulder, "Moe French was the girl's father." "Do you even have to ask?" Henry replied. "Love's tough," Emma said, like she was talking to herself more than us, "and so are fathers." Henry looked up at her, than nodded. "I guess so, I guess that's true."
