Dark shadows rolled across the once blue sky, the dark trees swaying in the thrashing wind. I tore through the woods, thorns catching on my clothes and tearing at my flesh.
"Safrina!"
Quickening my pace I dug my heels into the muddy ground desperate to find who was calling for me.
"Safrina! Help! Please!" A familiar voice screamed over the rushing wind. Tommy.
"Hurry!" Another voice carried, my dad.
"Faster!"
"Help!"
"Safrina!"I broke through the line of trees and searched for the source of the voices. My stomach dropped when through the darkness of rain and clouds a man stood. His glimmering netherite axe resting at his side. The white mask taunted me. Somehow his cloak didn't move in the wind, everything around him was moving, but not him. He raised a hand and pointed at me.
I froze realizing he wasn't pointing at me but behind me. I slowly turned on my heel and dropped to my knees when my eyes met the monstrosity that was before me.
My family, my whole family, everyone I could possibly love. Dad, Philza, Tommy, Wilbur. They where all slumped into a pile on the ground. A pool of a red substance covering the once green grass below them.
"You could save them." He said from behind me, his words sharp like knives.
"What?" I croaked, my throat dry.
"Just join me."
"SAFRINA!"
I shot up in bed, a cold sweat covering my entire body, practically soaking through the sheets of my cot. A worried looking tommy was kneeling beside me, his eyebrows knitted together.
"What?" I asked.
"You where screaming, what's wrong?" He said softly.
"Bad dream." I said quietly. "it just felt so real."
"Do you want some water?" He asked awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.
I shook my head and fully got up from bed, any feeling of wanting to go back to sleep diminishing. "Thank you Tommy."
"Hey what's that on your arm?" He questioned, gesturing to the black Smokey swirls.
"Uh, it's nothing, I was just drawing on myself." I quickly spoke, covering my arm with my hand, "There's not much to do around here." I chuckled nervously.
Tommy nodded and looked at me suspiciously, narrowing his eyes.
"You can leave now."
He nodded his head and walked out of the door without a word, like the air was physically hurting him.
I sighed and ran my hands over my face, I should find a way to cover that up. Slowly shuffling over to the built in closet that was dug out of the wall I grabbed some clothes to change into for the day.
I had decided on wearing black cargo pants and a baggy t-shirt to cover the bumps that had just recently broke skin. They where itching like crap, and honestly I was ready for it to be over. I had been following Philza's tips and every night when everyone was asleep I filled the bathtub with warm water and oats that I had snatched from the kitchen. It definitely helped ease the itching and I was very grateful for his help.
As I was getting dressed I decided on using the white wraps I usually used for climbing to cover up the black markings on my arm. I sighed and looked down at my now covered hand and arm. Slowly I unsheathed my small dagger that I kept concealed in my shoe and held it above the skin on my uncovered arm. Taking a deep breath I slowly pushed it against my flesh, wincing as I cut deeper than I had anticipated . I lifted the knife up and as soon as my blood touched the air the blue flame engulfed my arm.
Slowly I watched the flames calm down before they disappeared completely leaving no sign of harm, just like before. I sighed and straightened out deciding to go on a walk in the halls.
I hadn't seen Wilbur in a couple of days, it was almost like he was avoiding me. Tommy was also being skittish around me like I was a ticking time bomb. Which was unusual for the boy who was almost always around people, and talking loudly.
I was starting to miss the sunlight that I had grown used to taking for granted. Tommy and Wilbur forbid me from stepping foot outside of the ravine, I was also starting to miss my father. He probably forgot about me. No letters no contact nothing.
So all in all my life was falling apart, I was slowly loosing motivation to get up in the morning and the night terrors where keeping me up at night. The only thing I looked forward to was having wings, the process was going by very slowly to me, even though the pace was normal.
I sighed and ran a hand through my pink hair pulling it into a messy bun. I grunted painfully as the movements of lifting my arms up pulled at the growth on my back.
I groaned lightly and rolled my shoulders, shaking out my sore muscles and joints, because of the new growth my body was on a immense strain.
I swung my door open and walked down the hallway leading to my room, the lanterns in the walkway seemed to be dimmed, only giving off a faint glow to see the steps in-front of me. Sighing once more I ran my hands along the rigid stone walls, slight moisture coming off onto my fingertips.
Small whispers seemed to beckon my mind, carrying my legs and soul through the moist stone hallways. I shivered but couldn't bring my arms to warm me up, allowing the chill to wrack through my body.
Im not sure where I was going, my body seemed to carry me through the ravine. I felt like my body didn't belong to my mind, the thoughts in my head seemed completely silent, bathing my senses in a earie feeling of demise.
My feet slowed down involuntary, my heart beating unatruly fast, the shadows seemed to twist and shape, grabbing and reaching for me. Tearing at me, almost begging me to stop walking, but my feet said otherwise.
A loud bang followed by manical laughter, faint yelling, and more laughter. That laugh, it taunted me, poked and prodded at me, it seemed so familiar, yet so foreign.
My feet sped up again, it started as a walk but soon evolved into a jog before the shadows made me run.
I pumped my arms as beads of cold sweat trickled down my neck and forehead. The voices became louder as I neered the source of the sound.
I skidded around the corner, my feet sliding against the slick ground, a type of urgency washed over me, wracking my body with a sense of panic.
The hairs on the back of my neck pricked up and caused a shiver to wrack through my body. Something was wrong and I was walking straight towards it.
