Chapter 9

I was breathless, kneeling before my destroyed companions. This was all wrong... They couldn't be gone! Who did this? William? Henry... It must of been him, an act of revenge! It couldn't have been anyone else, right?...

I heard the creak of a large metal piece within the walls, finally making a way through to my home. The sound was followed by light steps behind me, but I couldn't turn to look. Soon a hand was rested on my back, and someone drew me into a hug.

I knew instantly who had joined me. I choked out, "Mike? Is that you?"

"I'm here," the sympathetic tone of who I now knew as Micheal Afton replied.

"Mike, it's all wrong! It's so, I couldn't save them! They're --" I cried my heart out, gripping him tightly. I'd failed them, waited for encouragement from him.

"Don't react. I need to tell you something. I realized that your friends were trapped in the animatronics. Corpses included. Anyway, I realised that disabling the robots was the only way to free them."

"You did this?!"

"I told you not to react! Shut it and wait for me to finish ok? I honestly didn't want to, it hurt to do it, but you've been trying to free them after 8 years! That's too long! I couldn't handle the thought of seeing you suffer more. If you couldn't figure it out, I had to do it. I couldn't tell you, you'd stop me. I imagine the first solid thing you could find, you'd use as a weapon."

"I'm still tempted Afton!" However a laugh was sounded from my throat.

"I had no idea if this plan would or wouldn't work, but I think it did. Look."

He lifted up my chin and, though I was still light headed, I noticed five blinding lights infront of me. People. Surrounded in mist and with black streaks stained below dark eyes. I finally knew what they were. Not people, spirits! My friends!

I reached out the one in the middle of the group. They lifted their hand too. As our hands made contact, I noticed how warm they felt, and I could feel the being's emotions.

"Y/N," the recognisable voice of Cassidy spoke, "I knew this would happen. I'm sorry I didn't warn you, but we've changed our future paths enough, I feared there wouldn't be any good consequences. I'm sorry."

I finally caught my breath to respond, "No I'm sorry. I was too desperate to get you back, I didn't want to face reality. I just wanted to hear the voices I thought I'd lost. But it's fine. I can hear them now. You sound exactly like you did that day you died."

Gabriel's memorable voice chimed into the moment, "Don't worry about it! Besides, we're here to stay! How long would you survive without us nearby? Not long I tell you that."

"I may still drop off an endless supply of cake to wherever you end up after this." Susie happily floated towards me, wiping away another tear that slithered down my cheek, "if so you'll know who did it!"

"I'll miss being a pirate," the finally regular voice of Fritz called from slightly above me, "it was fun while it lasted. Good to have two hands again though."

"Wanna tell the truth Fritz?" I noticed Jeremy in the corner, narrowing his eyes.

"'bout what?"

"Why we couldn't fix your programming?"

"Ah! Yeah no it was all me. I know it was annoying but cheered you up didn't it? Ah think I be a pretty good captain in the makin, eh? Aye lass I should probably stop now."

I laughed in defeat, shame and relief. "I'm so glad. You really will be okay now. You're free. I just wish I figured it out sooner."

Cass lay a hand on my shoulder, "I took a while to figure it out too. But at least we were together as long as we were. It gave me time to see that maybe we didn't need to leave either."

The group came closer, drawing me into another embrace. I was surprised by how calm I was about all this. They'd be ok, and so would I. I could only smile as small tears of joy leaked out of my (E/C) eyes.

My breathing was shaky and my smile quivering. I soon realised that there was one more thing to worry about. What next? What happens to me now? Where do I go from here?

"What do we do now? Will they take me away, to some horrible family or... My parents? I can't bear to face them after all of this. What do I do?"

Michael happily answered, "I've made a few arrangements, so that you can stay with someone slightly more familiar to you, and who understands your situation. Wonder who that could be huh?"

"No clue whatsoever." I leaned over to see what he was taking from his pocket, immediately amused by the familiar blade he released.

He took out of his pocket, the kitchen knife I stole so long ago. I listened intently to what else he had to say, "Now unless you're still insanely mad at me for my name and occupation and still want to jab this into my flesh, I'd be happy to help you fit in with the world. So, take the knife and kill me, or come with me and let me look after you. Don't worry I'll still be just a friend to you."

I hugged him and laughed through a grateful sob, "I wouldn't dare kill you after this. Thank you so much!"

"Anytime."

I spent some time introducing Michael to the spirits. We had a good time talking about how I'd coped for so long. Cooped up in a small maintenance room among many nuts and bolts, screws and screwdrivers.

I took him to my bedroom, and explained how I used the ventilation system to get to him. He was shocked on how I called a few blankets and table cloths a comfortable mattress.

The spirits were also quite excited to talk about themselves too. It was nice to see their personalities truely back in action. Pride, shyness, excitement. Susie even grabbed us a few party hats to celebrate the occasion.

Our time alone came to an end as a loud slam of the door was heard. Henry Emily walked in furious, and stood still, traumatized. He was placed to be perfectly facing two prison escapees, five white silhouettes and a foul pile of his loved animatronics, now all useless scraps.

He gaped at the sight, unsure of how to react as he pointed out each oddity. "Missing kids. Murders. Ghosts. Hostage --"

"Who is not a hostage and stayed here by choice," I corrected his list and gestured to him to continue.

"Right. Haunted pizzeria. I'm absolutely getting sued."

"Yup."

"Absolutely, sir."

"100%"

"I'll still work the day shift for your business sir?"

"You've done enough."

A/N

Thanks so much for making it this far!!! Good news and bad news.

Starting with the bad... we're sorta nearing the end, but also there will be a bit more to get through...

The good news is that I've had too much fun with this. So I've decided that the remaining few parts I'll be making leads onto a sequel.

Don't get to excited! I'm still planning it. I don't even know if this is good news as, knowing my luck, this could have been the worst fanfic you've ever seen. If you did enjoy it, thank you so much I've been through a lot lately and I appreciate your time here 🥲

Have a great day all!
