"Good morning, my love." Maya blissfully turned over in bed, greeting her girlfriend, unaware of the pain the latter had been experiencing all night.
"Morning, babe." Emma kissed the temple of Maya's head. Maya got up and headed towards the bathroom, finally leaving Emma with some space to think. It scared her, how quickly Maya fell in love with the domesticity of their relationship while she still struggled to find a foothold for herself to grasp onto. Emma snapped out of her thoughts as the shower water started running and Maya peaked her head out of the slightly ajar bathroom door.
"You coming?"
"Yeah." Just like she felt herself doing every morning, Emma threw on a fake smile and followed her girlfriend into the bathroom they shared practically everyday.

"Uh uh. No, no, no." Maya let go of her grip on Emma's hand, using hers to instead separate Andy and Ryan. "No PDA in my kitchen." She declared following Emma, who had taken a seat at one of the barstools lined up next to the island.
"That is so hypocritical. You think either of us like seeing you and Emma being all disgustingly cute all over this apartment. Like bleh." Andy made a sour face.
"Only difference is it's my apartment. If you two don't like it, Barbie and Ken can go." Maya shrugged, making a 'shoo' gesture to the so-called 'Barbie and Ken.'
"All right, sorry to break this...spirited...conversation up, but I have to get to work."
"You want me to drive you?" Maya asked, grabbing her keys as Emma quickly filled her thermos with coffee.
She kissed Maya's head quickly. "I'm good. Love you."
"See, like that." Andy rolled her eyes as Ryan crossed his arms over his chest.
"Totally cute." He agreed.
Emma chuckled until the door closed behind her. She paused for a moment, taking everything in. Each step she took, she felt like she could breathe more and more. What she'd been trying to deny six weeks had finally come to light.
She wasn't happy...

"She looks tense." Maya observed closely from the engine floor as Andy was interviewed in the upstairs conference room. "I wish I could read lips."
"Maybe they'll give her the key to the city." Vic feebly joked as the blonde continued to intently stare at her friend. The blonde felt like her guts were going to explode. It was a weird metaphor, but one Maya used to describe every minor inconvenience in her life.
"Maya?" Vic snapped her fingers in front of the blonde's face to regain her attention.
"Yeah, sorry."
"What's up with you?"
"It's, uh..." Maya fumbled trying to come up with some excuse for her distant behavior. But, instead, she blurted out the thought that had been taking over her mind for the past six weeks. "I think Emma's gonna break up with me."
"I'm sorry, what?"

But, as hard as Maya tried to figure out what was going on in Emma's head, she would never know, mostly because Emma had no idea either.
"Emma, hey." Maggie waved her hand in front of her sister's face. "You seem distracted. What's up?"
"How can you tell if you're happy?"
