I let the time slip by over an hour. Late as always, I grabbed the paper and ran to my office. As I approached the doors, I heard laughter and giggles. "Well, they beat me," I thought to myself. I pulled on my singing door and walked in with a smile.
All eyes were on me. Walking past four well-dressed teenage boys, I said, "Hello, how are you?" Pausing their conversation, they just stared and waved. Passing Miss Amy's desk to my door, she whispered, "Dr. Skye, your clients are here. I'll send them in when you are ready." She was serious.
"Aye, he looks helpful." one of the guys said sarcastically. "Chill! Delvin, you can't judge everyone from their first appearance." Delvin was the leader of the friends, the chief. He and Hudson always disagree about something. That is just their friendship. If they didn't argue, people would think something was wrong.
Every group of friends has parents that try to control everything. In this click was Mason's. "My parents say he is the best in town," he said. Leaning over Mason's shoulders and covering
His ears. August stated, "Mason, your parents give everyone a chance."
Ready to see how this session was going to go. I pulled off my coat and unloosed my tie. This session could be a rollercoaster. I grabbed my pen and paper for notes and picked up the phone to buzz Miss Amy's desk. "Dr. Skye: Amy! You can send them in." Before hanging up, I heard her say, "Excuse me, young men, the doctor is ready to see you now."
Walking into the door like a pack of wolves the lead, Delvin gave out sitting instructions like this was his office. "I'll sit here, Hudson, you on this side of me and Mason on this side. Mr. Smart mouth, you can sit over there." Standing there observing their actions in amazement. Hudson looked at me with his green eyes and flipped his blond hair saying, "I'll only sit here if this gentleman allows me to get comfortable."
He must have done this often because Mason fussed, "Dude, you are always trying to be extra." He released all of his weight onto my new black leather sofa. I hope he does not burst it open. Embarrassed, August turned red and said, "Can't we go somewhere and be civilized for once?"
This session is going to be interesting. I laughed slightly and said to the boys, "Make yourselves at home." I walked over to the only empty chair available. I've been in this office for some time and never had an assigned seat. Opening a black gel pen, I start, "So, let's start by introducing ourselves." Pausing to observe their reactions, "I am Dr. Charles Skye. I will be your therapist." I start every session the same.
Going into details, I continued, "I've been in this area for about two years, licensed and practicing for about four years." The boss looked around at the others and started, "I'm Delvin, a Junior at Daniel's High School. I serve as Student Council President." They all followed his queue one by one. "I'm Hudson, a Junior at Daniel's High School. I am the Student Ambassador" "My name is Mason. I attend Daniel's High School. I am the Treasurer of the Student Council." In every group of friends, it's always the one goofy friend, "And then it's me. August is my name, and I go to Daniel's High School. I just keep these boys under control."
The way it sounds, you would think Delvin was a big muscular guy, but he is not. He stands about 5'2, has a brown complexion, and has jet-black dreads.
Intensity, I felt their eyes cutting my head open as I wrote a few lines. I looked up and said, "Nice to meet you guys. Tell me, what brings you in today?" You know who spoke up. Delvin, "I'll go first because I feel experienced more than them." He stood up as if he was ready to make a speech. I let him have the floor while I sat in my assigned seat and wrote down what I thought was important. To my surprise, he only allowed the others to speak a sentence or two.
The session went like this.
"We need help mentally. This school year has been the worst ever. First, we got a new principal we know nothing about." Delvin said, flashbacking into the past.
