Marlo stood outside her mother's door. It had been only a couple of minutes ago that she had died, but Marlo just wasn't sure when you should go in to see your dead mom. The doctor stepped out of the room, nodded, and then left the little country house.

Marlo stepped inside her mother's room. It was the same as it always had been: the patch work quilt hung over her grandmother's old rocking chair, her mother's jewelry box slightly crooked on the dresser, the bed with it's---

There was a small greenish figure crouched over her mother's body.
"Heheheee", it laughed." Hanna Hope, you were a foolish girl and so is your daughter. I warned you. I wouldn't have had to kill you if you had just given me her when she was an infant."
Marlo screamed. The thing came towards her--

"Marlo,Marlo," It was Jake shaking her awake. They had been best friends since third grade." You were screaming. I came in to see if you were OK."
"I keep having the same dream, Jake, it's scary." She said.
Jake slid his hand into hers," Relax, I promise I won't let them get you, M."
Marlo turned to her side. She caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror, and suppressed the urge to push Jake out of the room. Instead she said," As much as I appreciate that, I need to get dressed which means you have to get out."
"Jake slid off the bed,"Alright, I see how it is. But remember what they say: Friends that dress together stay together."
" Maybe, but people still believe that you have a brain. Looks like people can be wrong." Marlo said teasingly.
He laughed," You're so fun to tease. I'll see you at breakfast."
And with that he left.
Marlo was relieved to be alone. It felt like the first time in weeks that she had been in a quiet area, considering that she had been having the same terrifying dream for the past month or so. It was so strange, the little green thing, the way it looked at her as if it were finally getting a long deserved award, and what it had said to her mother's lifeless body as if she could have heard him. She shook her head and moved to find a decent outfit.
Marlo finally decided on jeans and a plane black T-shirt. She found her brush and started brushing out her tangled mess of long brown hair.
"Do you ever plan on coming down to breakfast?" Jake said, poking his head around the corner to look into Marlo's room.
"Are you here to escort me?" Marlo said.
He held his arm out to her," Why of course,Madaam Marlo."
She took his arm and smiled. They laughed as they made their way to the kitchen, arm in arm.
